This Festival Malta Song For Europe was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Culture under the auspices of Minister Dr Joe Cilia, the Festival was held on 24 and 25 January 1997 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.
The Organising Committee for this Festival was made by Norman Hamilton as the chairman of the Festival, Robert Cefai Secretary and Andrew Buhagiar, Andrew Psaila, Gino Cauchi, M’Lourdes Bonnici and Ray Axisa as members

Awards Festival Song For Europe 1997
(A) The winning song tirrapenzenta to Malta in the Eurovision Song Festival 1997 will be held in Dublin Ireland. On 3 rd May 1997. Composer and Author went Dublin with the contingent
(B) The Composer Finalist given Lm 350 while singer / c / Lm 90 winners awarded
(C) The Second place winner Composer given l-kantant/a/i while he is afforded Lm 200 Lm 80.
(D) The Third place winner Composer given Lm 130 Lm 70 while he is afforded l-Singers.
(E) The composer of the song Thirteen who took part and were ranked first,second or third place given Lm 50 each.
(F) The 16 songs will be recorded on CD.
The program of the Festival was so
Friday 24th February 1997 at 7.30pm Sung all the 16 Songs Finalists of the Festival. Singing the 1996 winner Miriam Christine. Show by George Curmi ‘il- Puse’ Jury chose 10 songs to qualify to the Final.
Saturday 25th February 1997 at 7.30pm Sung the 10 finalist songs of the Festival. Singing the 1996 winner Miriam Christine. Show by George McCrae The jury select the winning song which will be represents Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin
Winners and becomes the Presentation by Hon. Minister Dr.Joe Cilia.
