The 26th Edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu was held on Friday and Saturday 20 and 21 April 2001 at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, at Tal-Qroqq, l-Imsida.
The show, presented by Valerie Vella, was broadcast a week after on 28 April 2001 on PBS. 94 songs were submitted, shortlisted by a panel of jurors to 40 songs until the final 18 were chosen by a different panel.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu trophy is detained for a year by the author/composer of the winning song. Trophies were also rewarded to the song with the best interpretation, the best social theme and the best musical arrangement.
Finalists

- In the final night Jesmond Tedesco Triccas replaced Hector Bruno in song Maltin Fuq Mars, though Mr Bruno's voice is present in the cd recording.
The Final Jury
A Panel of five jury judged the songs in the final night:-
This jury and the public opinion vote were observed by Notary Dr Sandro Schembri Adami.
All profits from tickets and sponsors in the contest were donated to the Eden Foundation led by Dr Josie Muscat.
The Interval
During the vote counting, the audience was entertained by magician Lorenzo Brincat and a dancing troupe from the Msida Dance Centre. The winners of the previous edition, Glen Vella and Eleanor Cassar, could not perform their song as they were competing in Bulgaria on the same day.
