The First Edition of the Festival was organized by the Youth Travel Circle (YTC) in 1973, under the leadership of Fr Maurice Mifsud. The intention was to create a festival between friends and YTC members who were singer-songwriters. The name of the first edition was Festival ta' kant folk akkumpanjat mill-kitarri and was held on 5 May 1973 at St Albert College in Valletta.
