The '''22nd Edition''' of [[L-Għanja tal-Poplu]] was held on Saturday 26 April, 1997 at the [[Mediterranean Conference Centre]] at [[Valletta]].
144 original songs were submitted and werer shortlisted to 16 songs for the final night.


The Festival was also shown on [[TVM]].
A cd with the finalists and a programme  with the lyrics were published.


It was submited a total of 144 orginal songs which was choose by a panel of Jury’s [[ ? ]] choose the 16 songs which passed for the Final.
The show, hosted by [[Romina Bonaci]] and [[Karl Bonaci]] was transmitted on [[TVM]].


Tickets at € 10 were available from the Y.T.C. 227 Merchants' Street, Valletta.
