The 21st Edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu was held on Saturday 20 April, 1996 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

118 original songs were submitted and shortlisted to 16 finalists.

A cd with the finalists and a programme with the lyrics were published.

The final night was hosted by Carmen Tanti and Joe Tanti of The Greenfields.
