Emil Calleja Bayliss

Emil Calleja Bayliss, from San Ġwann, Malta born on 23 June, 1989.

Relatively young author to the local music scene. He was always interested in the local music scene and from a very young age showed interest in following what was happening around him.

One of his main passions is writing and he is an editor on the website escflashmalta.com which aims to promote local talent, previously he was also an editor on escmalta.com. One of his main passions was poetry, and the main aim behind was the dream that one day he gets to write songs.

Slowly, the dream was realized when he wrote his first set of lyrics for an event at the University of Malta. On this occassion he worked with Jean Claude Vancell and Jessika. From then on, he tried his best to take every opportunity that came his way.

In 2012, his song ‘Tal-Komma Twila’ made the finals of L-Għanja Tal-Poplu – the song was a composition of Dario Bezzina and sung by his sister Grecia Bezzina. The team struck the right chord together as on their first venture they managed to finish in second place.

In 2013, Emil made it to the finals of ‘L-Għanja Tal-Poplu’ with two songs. This time round one was co-written with Rita Pace who also sung the entry ‘Pupazz’ which managed to finish in third place and also had the song ‘Għal Dejjem’ a composition of Mark Scicluna, with an interpretation of Marie Claire Attard Bason.

After managing to pass to the finals of this prestigious festivals, next up was the Konkors Kanżunetta Indipendenża were once again Emil managed to make it to the finals with two songs. The first was a composition of Philip Vella , to Danica Muscat’s interpretation and the second one was the song ‘Riflessi’ a composition of Mark Sciluna to Karen Debattista’s interpretation.

Albeit, not winning any awards, the songs were both well received and the feedback on both of them was really encouraging. He also had a song amongst the semi-finalists of the category for new talent entitled ‘Dil-Fjura Għalik’ which was sung Naomi Roberts to Kaya’s composition. The latest succes for Emil, comes alongside Mark Scicluna, who slowly the two are forming a dynamic team. Together they managed to reach the final of the International Festival of Maltese Song with number ‘Poeta Bla Kliem’ sung by the talented Mark Tonna.

Although still at a relatively young age and quite new to the scene, Emil is establishing himself as a lyricist. Slowly, he would like to keep working on this and if possibly work with different people as each experience is a learning experience and every step is important.
