Rita Pace

Rita Pace (born 31 May 1974) is a Maltese singer and songwriter.

She was born in Paola. Though she studied classical singing, she also likes to interpret folk, jazz, blues, rock, ethnic and other music styles. She has achieved top placings and won a number of festivals. She obtained third place in the 2006 edition of The Malta Song for Europe Festival as an author with the song She Gives Me Wings sung by Klinsmann Coleiro. She has also achieved second and third places in different editions of Indifest as an author and won the best interpretation award as a singer.

As a songwriter, Rita won several prizes in various local festivals, such as Fl-Għaqda l-Melodija, Ilwien Mużikali and L-Għanja ta’ Maltin. Rita also obtained first and second place in Maltahit festival as an author in 2009, and third place in 2008. She participated in Għanjafest 2010 and placed third as a songwriter and singer. She had previously placed second and third as an author and composer in the youth section with songs focusing on powerful social themes and was awarded three times for best lyrics. She obtained third place in the 2013 edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu with a song she herself interpreted; Pupazz, composed and co-written with Emil Calleja Bayliss. The next edition was won by Rita as a songwriter. She wrote the lyrics for Jien Ma Naħdimx composed by Mark Scicluna and sung by Karen DeBattista. She also won the Best Lyrics with a Social Theme Award with Quċċata composed by Jeffrey Scicluna and performed by 7 Spadi. She also won second place of Indifest 2015 as the lyric writer of song Ma Ninsa Qatt composed by Dominic Cini ‘Minik’ and sang by Dorcas Debono.

Rita has written material for CDs aimed at raising awareness on specific social issues and for charity. She has taken part in musicals and also co-wrote a musical called Edel in which she also played a role and sang a number of tracks.

She took part in workshops on improvisation and folk music in Italy and Germany and at various cultural events worldwide. She also took part in Discovery International Pop Music Festival in Bulgaria as a singer and songwriter and was awarded the Jury's Prize. Rita has also released a number of singles for herself on radio and collaborated with other singers and songwriters.

Rita Pace appeared in a live concert of Maltese songs at the M3P launch during Notte Bianca at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta on Saturday 25 September 2010.

Rita is married to Paul Attard, they have two children and live in Ħaż-Żebbuġ.
