Minn dejjem kien mixtieq mill-biċċa l-kbira tar-residenti ta’ Ħal-Qormi li l-Parroċċa ta’ San Ġorġ tkun mgħammra b’soċjetà mużikali u l-Banda tagħha bl-intenzjoni l-ewwelnett li ttejjeb il-festa ta ’San Ġorġ speċjalment fiż-żona magħrufa bħala ‘Tal-Vitorja’ b’ tali mod. li l-popolazzjoni tkun tista 'tgawdi din il-festa bis-sħiħ, u t-tieni tkompli tiffavorixxi l-arti mużikali.
Kien f’Settembru 1987 meta erba ’persuni, jiġifieri Dr. Antoine Agius, Chev. John Mary Spiteri, is-Sur Carmelo Spiteri u s-Sur Salvu Debono, iddeċidew flimkien li jwasslu din il-ħolma għat-twettiq tagħha.
L-ewwel ħaġa li ħasbu fiha kienet li jistabbilixxu l-pożizzjoni tal-Klabb. Allura, il-ftehim ġie providenzjalment iffinalizzat mal-klabb tad-dilettanti Qormi Rockers Football Club, li bħalissa kellu l-post tagħhom magħluq, u li inċidentalment kien jinsab fl-inħawi ta’ fuq tal-Parroċċa. Qormi Rockers Football Club aderixxa għall-proposti tal-erba’ protagonisti.
It-tranżazzjonijiet segwew wara, u għalhekk il-fundaturi bdew mill-ewwel jirrealizzaw il-ħolma tagħhom. Bħala Direttur mużikali għażlu lil Mro. Frank Galea; aktar huma għażlu innu, ensign u arma. Huma ddeċidew ukoll fuq l-isem tal-Klabb. ‘Aniċi’ kienet il-kelma! Ġie magħżul apposta biex jiżvela r-relazzjonijiet qawwija tagħhom mal-Patrun, peress li kien il-kunjom tal-familja ta’ San Ġorġ. Il-pass li jmiss fl-organizzazzjoni ta’ din is-Soċjetà kien it-twaqqif ta’ sħubija u allura seta’ jiġi ffurmat l-ewwel kumitat amministrattiv.
Imbagħad ġiet l-ewwel stedina għas-sehem tal-Banda mill-Kumitat Festi Nazzjonali għall-Ħadd 13 ta’ Diċembru 1987, meta l-Banda għamlet marċ mat-toroq ewlenin tal-Belt Valletta f’ Jum ir-Repubblika. L-istess kumitat stieden lill-Banda biex tieħu sehem fil-Karnival fi Frar 1988, meta żaret mill-Belt Valletta liebsa kostum tal-karnival akkumpanjata minn karru li eventwalment rebaħ it-tielet prezz.
Issa, wasal iż-żmien għall-ftuħ uffiċjali tal-post, u dan seħħ fil-festa liturġika ta ’San Ġorġ, is-Sibt 23 ta’ April 1988. F’din l-okkażjoni speċjali, il-Banda defilet għall-ewwel darba f’Ħal-Qormi b’marċ li jgħammex. qabel il-ftuħ uffiċjali li sar mill-HE id-Deputat President tar-Repubblika ta’Malta s-Sur Pawlu Xuereb. Inċidentalment, dan il-marċ għadu attrazzjoni ta’ kull sena.
Il-Każin tal-Banda Aniċi beda jieħu sehem fil-Festa ta ’San Ġorġ fl-1988 u jippersisti b’obbligu f’din il-parteċipazzjoni sal-lum. Il-Festa ta ’San Ġorġ tiġi ċċelebrata fl-aħħar Ħadd ta’ Lulju.
Iżda sfortunatament il-post ma tqiesx xieraq biex jikkonforma mal-bżonnijiet tas-soltu tal-Banda. Għal din ir-raġuni bdiet titwaqqa' fl-1 ta' Awwissu 1988. Wara, inbniet l-ewwel fażi tagħha u tlestiet fl-1991, eżatt fl-10 anniversarju tas-Soċjetà. Imbagħad ġie inawgurat b’mod ċerimonjuż mis-Sindku ta’ dak iż-żmien is-Sur Clyde Puli.
Għal din l-okkażjoni, is-Soċjetà inawgurat statwa ġdida ta ’San Ġorġ fil-bitħa tal-Każin flimkien ma’ ensign uffiċjali ġdid għall-arblu tal-Każin li mbagħad ġie installat fl-1993.
Il-Banda bdiet tieħu sehem fil-purċissjoni tal-Ġimgħa l-Kbira mill-1989, u fil-purċissjoni tal-Għid filgħodu mill-1994. Barra minn hekk, ħadet sehem fil-purċissjoni ta ’Corpus Christi, esegwiet biċċiet mużikali kemm f’Ħal-Qormi kif ukoll barra minnha, kienet tinkludi l-Università ta’ Malta; f'Settembru 1988 żar il-Libja u daqq hemm għall-okkażjoni tal-Jum Nazzjonali Libjan; barra minn hekk, fl-1996 żar il-Kanada u l-USA. Għadha tiddefendi f'diversi bliet u rħula ta' Malta u Għawdex. Dan il-attivitajiet għadhom għaddejin.
The Band also provides service on special occasions
- At the 56th Congress of the Holy Name Society which was organized at Ħal-Qormi in 1989, when it was the only Band taking part,
then on the occasion of the solemn investiture of two Archpriests and other priests in the Parish,
- At Triq l-Imdina during Pope John Paul II [[1]] visit in 1990,
- At the inauguration of the golden sandals on the titular statue of St George, as also at the launching of the Health and the Parochial Centres at Ħal-Qormi in 1992.
- As from 25th May 1991, there began the celebrations of ‘Ħal-Qormi Day’, on which occasion our Band took part together with the other local Band Clubs. This is a yearly celebration. Our Band participated also on the following occasions:
- On Christmas Day as from 1994;
- In 1996 for Ħal-Qormi Day Centre;
- In 1999 on the occasion of the enthronement as Bishop of Mons. Annetto Depasquale;
- In 2003 during an Academy at the Parish Church on the occasion of the 17th Centenary from the Martyrdom of St George, and from 2004 at the local Carnival celebrations at which it is still participating.
It took part in this same year during the inauguration of the monument in honor of St George at the Square between Triq is-Sagħtar and Triq il-Ħelsien. Our Band also participated
- At various obsequies, and the first to be organized by our Society was in 1991 on the sad bereavement of Mr Carmelo Spiteri who was one of the founder-members, our first instrumentalist and the first Secretary of our Society.
- It also participated in the funeral of the ex-Archpriest Mons. Gerald Frendo in 1994, and hen again in 2002 at the obsequies of Mr Salvo Debono, another co-founder-member and in 2006 at the funeral of Mr Sebastian Baldacchino of St George’s Fireworks Factory.
At the centre of our Society there are diverse sections still functioning, like for example the Youth Section called Stillieri founded at the beginning of 1988, the Women Activists and Sports. Others that ceased to exist are: the sub- committee for Philanthropic Activities and the drama company Lydda.
Our Philarmonic Society is provided with disparately decorated halls; in 1999 it was aggrandized to be more pleasurably serviceable. One can’t forget the latest cultural addition: the greatly appreciated musical archives, inaugurated in 2008 as part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of our musical Society.
As already hinted at, one of the primary aims of our Society is to enhance musical culture. This it always did and is still carrying out by endeavouring to inspire and encourage new musicians, thanks first of all to Mro Galea who conducted the Band from 1988 to 1998, to Mro. Andrew Calleja who conducted from 1998 to 2005, and finally to the present conductor, Mro. Joseph Vella who controls the baton as from 2005.
Dr.Antoine Agius was the first President of the Society and he still is. The other two ranks created from the very foundation are still occupied by the same persons, i.e. Chev. John Mary Spiteri as General Director and Chev. George Portelli as Treasurer.
Our Philharmonic Society boasts of various musical works in its repertoire, from brilliant marches to funerary ones, from waltzes to sacred hymns, Christmas songs, and classical music of diverse styles.
Our Society is still active and organizes variegated social activities especially with the aim of gathering the necessary funds to continue functioning. It mainly strives to contribute to the enhancement, in particular of Ħal-Qormi’s and in general of Malta’s cultural activities.
We are pleased to inform that on 2013 our Society will don a festive mood in commemorating the first quarter of a century from its establishment On 29 June The George Cross and a russian Icon of St George were exibhited a the Club premises.
On the 7th October At St George’s Cathedral in Modica, Sicily an agreement was signed for Anici Band to participate in the feast of St George on the 27th April 2014.
On the 16th of November After a Massed Band march together with the Spinola Band in Republic Street the musicians and the committee members paid a courtesy call on President Dr.George Abela at the Palace.
On the 29th November The Society bought a grave in Qormi’s cemetry for the interenment of the decased of the Society.
2014
Fis-27 t'April, il-Banda Anici ħadet sehem w ipparteċipat fil-festa ta' San Ġorġ li jsir f'Ragusa f'Sqallija
2015
On the 4th of January Her Excellency The President of Matla Marie Louise Coleiro Preca paid a call to the club premises and she signed the Visitors Book.
On the 25th of March a Passion Paegent, L-Imsallab fi Triqatna was held in the streets in the vicinity of the Club with a cast of 150 persons. On the 15th of May on thet octctasion oft the 200 year of the birth of St John Bosco our Band took part in a Massed Band march together with Pinto Band Club from St Sebastian’s Parish in the vicinity of St Sebastian’s Church. Our Band was the only Band that represented the Parish of St George. On June 13 A new showcase ws inaugurated fro trophies and other artifacts.
On June 20 together with Banda San Ġorġ Martri our Band took Part in a Massed Band marchon the occasion of the inauguratioin of the restoration of the nieche of St George.
On June 21 The relic of St George was brought to the club premises.
2017
On August 1 Our Band took part on the occasion of the investiture of the new Archpriest Rev. Fr. Mario Mangion.
On Jun 23 The Appostolic Vicar Mons Frans Abdilla was th main guest for the Instrumental and Vocal Programme two days before the titular feast of St George.
