Bay Music Awards 2012
The Bay Music Awards 2012 was the ninth edition of the Bay Music Awards. The winners were named at the awards event, presented by 89.7 Bay hosts Dorian Cassar Nathan D and Ben Glover, at the Bay Arena, St Julian’s, on Wednesday 12 December 2012.
The tagline for this edition is 'Party like it's the end of the world', which is clearly a reference to the Mayan belief that the world would end in 2012.
Each category had a unique SMS number. To vote, listeners were required to send the artist/band name to the specified number via SMS.
Voting stopped on 5 December 2012. Only three votes per category could be sent from each mobile number.
Voters participated in a draw for a weekend break for two at the 5-star InterContinental Malta, along with a meal for two at the Asian fusion restaurant - Eastern Breeze.
Regular event tickets were be sold for €10; premium, front section ‘screamer’ tickets at €15; and a limited number of VIP tickets were available at €30 each – including an open bar and canapés.
An early bird buy one get one free offer was also available before 4 November 2012.
This edition saw various live performances (or partial playback) from the nominees, which in previous editions had always performed in playback.
The show closed with a performance of the Bay Kids song Circles, sales of which will help fund wheelchairs and hand cycles for people who can’t walk.
