Madelene Farrugia

Madelene Farrugia was born in Marsa on the 29 August, 1955. As Madelene Bugeja, she was the daughter of Ġiużzppi Bugeja and Marianna nee’ Galea. And the sixth of eight siblings.

She was married to Philip Farrugia on 6 March 1977. And got three children Anna Maria, Brian and Alexia. Today she is a grandmother of Adrian, Julian and Benjamin.

Madelene started as an countinuity announcer with Xandir Malta in November 1975, on what was a known as the 'A' Network Cable (ex-Rediffusion, today PBS). This was broadcast in English language. A few months later there was some proclaim, and movement and she started working broadcast in Maltese, with Radju Malta Muzikali, This station was only a music station. All broadcasts were directed and the music ranged from pop to classical.

She stopped as Countinuity Announcer in 1977 to start her own family but still remained oresenting some musical programs or information. Among them, the full series on bees and honey on writing Sammy Vella. As well as children's programs on production of George Peresso. In this period she started presentings some programs on television. Nilgħabu għad-dell was a quiz program for children.

In 1988 Madelene begain again as a countinity after a request of Charles Arrigo. In 1991 began and opened different broadcast work-stations broadcast over the Maltese Islands.

In May 1992 Mr.Norman Hamilton called her and asked her to be part of the team of the station, which at that time was a known as Super One. The following day began with Super One presenting a radio program L-Għażla tas-Semmiegħa (Listeners Chose), this was a one hour Program daily from Monday to Friday. Saturday was a little less than two hours. It was very popular and get received hundreds of letters. The most popular song, those days was Little Child / Tfajjel Ċkejken by Mary Spiteri which was placed third in the Eurovision festival. Some times she got more than sixty letter on the same day as a request for this song.

A few months after Norman Hamilton left the running of the station to start his own business. Hamilton Travel. And Madeleine been asked so I take his place. She expect from her own whole heartedly the invitation and continued to where Norman left.

Other programs during the time've had many. Madelene favorites program where discussion between 10.00 and midnight. They where a very interesting programs and always had originally been accepted well by the listeners. Often filed with Ray Azzopardi.

Program a trend was different from the usual program that Madelene present was with Claudio Tonna. In this program we tell to our lesteners to tell a joke, and at the end of the program was the best joke who we like more, it take a gift. This Was so popular, that another station has taken the idea and ran broadcast a similar program for several years.

ONE Radio as everybody knows is a political station. The party was gonna annually in the Argotti Gardens organize Iljieli Mediterranji (Mediterranean Nights). A showcase for Maltese and what musical talent as well as literary. Here for the first time in her life she was offer to present on stage. Something was not easy for me but I done’t also. The first concert have submitted was of Mary Spiteri together with Ray Azzopardi. Since then filed several concerts and literary evenings. I have met many singers and personalities. Among Demis Roussos whose concert I presented along with Claudio Tonna Ta'Qali.

Madelene Farrugia stop broadcasting on 30 April, 2014. It was a pitty because Madelene posseed a lovely clear and friendly voice always with a smile. And what a smile when she was in the mood.

In here owen free time she love the work of many hands as stitching, crossstitch and Tapestry. Love the crafts and cooking the sweet, her speciallity and even win or placed in competions.
