“Ta’ Verna’” was first establish around 40 years ago, however after coming across certain difficulties, the group had to disband.
Following a long hiatus, some of the musicians from original group approached George Bonello to reform the band. The new formation consisted of  accordion, harmonica, friction drum (rabbaba), Maltese tambourine, guitar, castanets and triangle.

It was about eight years ago, It was in 2004 that some of the musicians who were part of that original group confronted George Bonello to rise up this grupp. They expressed their desire to re-establish the group, and they asked me to join them with my accordion as the leading instrument. Therefore the group was again brought together, this time consisting of the accordion, harmonica, friction drum (known as rabbaba), Maltese tambourine, guitar, castanets and triangle
In February 2004 they played their first gig in the formation at the Kummittiva Xagħra, a traditional dance held during Carnival days. They then went on to play at other villages in Gozo.

On February of the same year that is in 2004, we took part in our first activity, this was when we played with the group “Kummittiva Xaghra” (a traditional dance held during Carnival days). We played both in the village of Xaghra as well in other villages in Gozo.
They have also played in Austria, Italy (Tuscany), and Slovakia (Nitra).

Year after year we continued to grow in terms of success, we played in various other Gozitan villages as well as abroad, namely in Austria, Tuscany. and also in Nitra - Slovakia. These villages accepted our request to play in their villages; therefore we were able to promote the beauty of Maltese folk music.
Aside from tradiational Maltese folk music, the band also plays various international folk songs, primarily as they see themselves as entertainers.

Ta' Verna released their first ever recording as part of the compilation of songs taking part in the 2013 edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu. Bit-Tof...Ma Tofx? is written by Rita Pace and George Bonello. It was featured on Toni Sant 337th Mużika Mod Ieħor podcast on Saturday 4 May 2013.

“Ta’ Verna” however do not only play Maltese folk music, we also play various international folk songs, this in order to entertain everyone, both Maltese and Foreigner.

We thank every person who during these years helped us achieve great honour every village we play. Last but not least we would like to thank God for this great gift which we intend to continue to use to bring happiness and joy to all those who hear us play.
