Corazon Mizzi

Corazon Mizzi

(born 11 July 1987) is a singer-songwriter from Malta. She is most noted for winning the festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu three times between 2007 and 2010.

Background

Corazon started studying piano practice and theory at the age of 10 and obtained a distinction in all graded examinations under the Trinity College of Music. She is still studying voice technique at the Johann Strauss School of Music, Valletta under mezzo-soprano Claire Massa. Besides music, Corazon has also studied in the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta, obtaining LL.B Dip.Not.Pub enabling her to practice professionally as a legal notary.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu

Corazon's winning song in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2007 Hawn Jien (Here I Am) describes the cry of an unborn baby to his insecure mother and her eventual response. This subject lights the fire to a topic at the center of Maltese debate, Malta being the only developed country in which any form of abortion is against the law.

In 2008 Corazon won the prize for Best Interpretation with her song "Illejla b'xejn". This song looks at the subject of prostitution from a humane viewpoint.

Her duet with Walter Micallef Tal-Aħħar (The Last) won them the top place in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2009.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2010 saw Corazon triumphant once more with her self-penned entry Mill-Għajnejn ta’ Tifla (From a Girl Eyes), which she sung accompanied by Alfred Fenech (oboe), Robert Tomasuolo (guitar), Maria Bonnici (flute), Mark Darmanin (percussion) and Mario "Cocker" Aquilina (double bass), collectively called il-Ħbieb tal-Qalb. She also won the Best Interpretation Award for this song.

In July 2016 Corazoni took part in the L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2006 – (Festival Kanzunetta Maltija) with the song X'Se Jsir? penned and composed by himself . She passed from the Semi-Final held on Thursday 7 July, 2016 and passed for the Final Night held on Saturday 9 July, 2016 with this song, she also win the title of Best Singer-Songwriter of this 40th Edition Festival of L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2006 – (Festival Kanzunetta Maltija).

Other Activities

Singing Philip Vella's Another Side of Me she competed amongst 10 other finalists in the Malta Hit Song Contest 2009 held on 1 May 2009 during Worker's Day celebrations organized by the Partit Laburista. That contest was won by Neville Refalo.

She is currently a resident singer on Kalamita aired on [One TV], which won the people's choice award for Best Programme at the Malta TV Awards in 2008. She also performs in many venues and events organised locally.

On the 4th September 2011 Corazon gave an acclaimed full concert to close the Marsaskala Summer Festival to a crowd of over five hundred. She was accompanied by Carlo Bugeja on keyboards, Renzo Spiteri on percussion, Robert Tomasuolo on guitar and Dion Xuereb on double bass. The concert was organised by Steve Borg and Joe Morales and presented by Caroline Tonna.

During the concert she sang songs from her Maltese repertoire and presented two new songs, Id-Dar tan-Nanna and Jgħidu Kien Hemm Raġel, Summertime by Sarah Vaughan and two Italian songs, including a Neopolitan one entitled Come Stai by Gigi Finizio.

Hawn Jien

On the 11th January 2014 Mizzi released her solo album Hawn Jien (Here I Am) at the Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta.

All the lyrics and melodies in the eleven tracks were penned by Mizzi, with musical arrangements by Dominic Galea. The album was produced by Steve Borg.

Eurovision

On 7 th February 2014 Corazon particepated in the Semi-Final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song Ten, but she did'nt made it to the Final on the 8 th February, 2014.

On 21 November, 2014 Corazon taken part in the semi-final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015, with the song Secretly but unfortunately, she didn’t made it to the Final sixteen.

Others

During 2016 she presented the tv programm Twelve to 3 during the week with Antonella Vassallo and Matilde Balzan on tvm.
