Mark Caruana is a migration researcher and community worker in Sydney, Australia.
Mark was born in Sliema, Malta and migrated to Australia in January 1973. He has been an active member of the Sydney Maltese community since 1975. He attended and read a paper at the Convention of Maltese Living Abroad in 2000 and 2010. He is an accredited translator in Maltese and is a Justice of the Peace in NSW.
Migration research and publications
Mark has researched and published widely on topics relating to the oral history of migrants in Australia.
- Recorded on cassette and video, in both English and Maltese, over 180 oral history interviews, primarily with early settlers from the Maltese Islands who settled in Australia between the years 1912-1940.
- Compiled several databases of Maltese abroad based on passport applications from Malta (1832-1940) held at the Malta National Archives as a help to persons tracing their immigrant ancestry and as a tool for further migration research.
