Live music enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the three-day Battle of the Bands that will be taking place this weekend - Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October in the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar, during the second edition of the Oktoberfest being organized by PRES (Malta).

The event, powered by Go Mobile, will involve live performances from no less than 11 bands split into two groups, the first batch performing on Friday and the second on Saturday, with six bands qualifying for the final night on Sunday. Each band’s performance will be voted upon by a panel of three judges – all with great experience and a proven track record in the music field, but the public will also have its say, as 30% of the total vote will be decided by the crowd present on the night through a drinks-for-tokens system.

The full list of participating bands is Access To, Cable 35, Cell 109, Fire, Frenzy Mono, Lynn Faure & Band, Mindstate, Pitch 99, Retrophytes, The Myth and White Crimson. All of these bands will be doing their utmost to claim one of the three top prizes, possibly the best ever prizes ever offered in a local competition of its kind. The bands placing first, second and third will in fact not only get a token trophy, but more importantly the incredible opportunity to perform at the renowned Matthew Street Festival in Liverpool next year plus a 10-hour recording package at Temple Studios. In addition, the band placing first will also be given an opportunity to audition for the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival 2007, an established annual international music event that runs for over three weeks and features some of the world’s biggest pop and rock stars.

The Battle of the Bands, powered by Go Mobile, is being organized by PRES (Malta) with the collaboration of the Liverpool 08 Capital of Culture campaign. Capital Radio 88.7FM is the official station for the event.
