Michela Galea

Michela Galea, born on 2 May, 1997, at St Luke’s Hospital, Tal-Pietà and grew up and lives in L-Imġarr, Malta. She is a Singer, Actress and Dancer.

Michela comes from a family that has a number of talented musicians and singers. Her father, Adrian Galea, is a Jazz Drummer and Percussionist and a singer, who performed in various popular shows such as the Malta Jazz Festival.

Her grandfather, Edwin Galea, is a singer and a pianist, who performed internationally such as in Japan, Australia, Italy and England. Her great grandfather, Oscar Lucas, was a great performer, clarinet and saxophone player and a complex man in the show business camp. He also performed internationally. Michela has a number of relatives who are famous singers and musicians. Take her education in St Monica School at il-Gżira and at the Junior College.

Michela started piano and music theory lessons at the age of 7 and is currently doing Grade 8, Music Theory. Since the age of four she attended Drama schools such as Stage Coach, Masquearade and The Malta Drama Centre and achieved up to Grade 7 Drama Group. She also achieved the Bronze, Gold and Silver Free Style Dancing within the Association of Teachers of Dancing.

She got Distinction ( 91%) in the Grade 6 Musical Theatre Individual Exam, a Distinction in the Grade 4 Musical Theatre as a group and a pass in the Grade 6 Musical Theatre exam as a group. She also achieved a merit (80%) in the Grade 8 Musical Theatre Individual Exam within the Trinity College, London.

She has been singing since she was very young and participated in various local festivals and got very good results. She takes lessons in voice technique by Pamela Bezzina. She participated in local various shows, in her school, in her village, Mgarr and in other localities around Malta and Gozo. Michela joined the Parish children choir since she was 5. Today, she has her own group who animates Mass. She was a part of the Animae Childrens Gospel choir, who performed at the Manoel Theatre. She was a part of the Spiteri Lucas children choir, who performed in two shows, In Harmony – Live the Music and Musicals Live. She was one of the singers of the 2009, Commissioner of Children official song, Id f’id, who sang it in front of the President of Malta, Dr. George Abela on the Children’s day. They performed it at l-Istrina 2009 and in the launching of a National Meeting for the Family.

In 2010, she was a part of the children choir for the Pope and sang during the Mass which was held at the Granaries, Floriana. She was also a part of Joseph Calleja children choir under the direction of Gillian Zammit who sang for the Pope and during the Joseph Calleja concert. Michela was a part of a team of 36 young singers who participated in a local TV program, Arpeġġi, directed by Mro. Paul Abela. Arpeġġi lasted from October, 2010 untill January, 2011 and she was one of the finalists.

Michela participated in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza - Talent Żgħażugħ 2011. She placed 3rd. She represented Malta at the Lithuania in October, 2011 and her song was chosen and put in the Kaunas Talent 2011 CD. She participated in a TV program named Entertain Me as a singer where she placed 2nd. Michela is currently taking part in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2014 – Talent Stabbilit and is hoping that she’ll pass for the final. She also took part in the OltreOceano Festival in Palermo, passed for the finals and will participate for the finals next August. She had a main part in a maltese musical television series called D.R.E.A.M.S.. She performed with the D.R.E.A.M.S cast in the Malta Song For Europe Opening 2012 and 2013 and also in an annual D.R.E.A.M.S Show. She took part in Katrina where she interpreted the role of Claire and she is currently interpreting the role of Zoe in Ħbieb u Għedewwa , thanks to Rewind Productions. Her latest achievment is winning the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2014, first time taking part in the established category with the song Mixja li Bdiet lyrics by Alfred E. Baldacchino and music by Renato Briffa. With this song also won the prize of First place.

In 2015, she took part in the Summer Hit Song Contest with the song Bounce Back, composed by Renato Briffa with lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss, finishing in 2nd place, whilst winning the Duets trophy having given an excellent performance with Janvil as well as the Maltese Song trophy having been spectacular in a cover version of Għanja, originally sung by Nadine Axisa. Presently, she is a backing vocalist on the weekly television show, The Entertainers Singing Challenge which airs on Net TV.

On 2 September, 2017 Michela taken part in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2017 with the song ‘Għanjiet’ lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss and music by Andrew Zahra.
