Brian Micallef

Brian Micallef born on 16 September, 1950 in Sliema Malta.

Attended St Joseph School Sliema and then St Aloysius’ College in Birkirkara and finally the Polythecnic in Msida where, for some years, he organized with others the Poly Rock Concerts with the main attraction being Maggie Bell – one of the great International singers (Rock/Blues/Soul) of the 60’s and 70’s.

Brian likes sports very much and when he was younger, played football with Sliema Wanderers Under 19, Hibernians Reserves, Birkirkara FC first team and the same with Melita, Kirkop Utd and St Andrews.

Beside this, in summer he always practiced swimming and played waterpolo with Sliema ASC and Reserves, and later with Exiles and Otters.

For some years he also played Chess, Basketball and Tennis at local levels.

His main job/career was as a Banker for 34 years.

He joined Rediffusion in 1973 and later Radju Malta and PBS and presented music programs with different styles of music - Rock, Blues, Soul, Pop, Heavy Metal, Oldies etc etc.

His well know program Grinta was on air for 18 years, while his present Rock/Blues program Rock Express is still being transmitted after 22 years.

During his programs Brian has interviewed almost all the local bands in Malta and Gozo of this genre of music.

In his own studio Brian has welcomed Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Fish, Girlschool, Lenny Zakatek etc, etc, etc.

He was also a Judge for the Eurovision Song Contest in Malta, and Judge, many a time, for Battle Of The Bands, between Maltese Bands.
