Jo Micali is a Maltese dance music producer and remixer. He was born as Joseph Micallef on 15 September 1982.

History

His love for music production gripped him as a young teenager when he began making tracks on his PlayStation, using very limited sounds and possibilities. Micali, sent a demo from these early recording to J Joy, who was impressed enough by these new trance tunes that he encouraged Jo to switch over to the Logic 5.5 sequencer on a Macintosh laptop. On hearing the material Micali produced with his new set up, J Joy signed him to his record label, Real Muzik.

2009

His first tracks on Real Muzik include "Contact", "Way of Life", "Goodbye" and "Mesmerize". But Micali’s big debut came, back in February 2009 when Paul Van Dyk’s label, Vandit Digital approached him to release his track "Euphoria". This song was a hit on the dance circuit and his name began to be mentioned regularly with those of Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Daniel Kandi, Aly & Fila, Sean Tyas and others. The moment of broad recognition for Micali came when Paul Van Dyk played "Euphoria" as a mash up with his own track "On The Other Side" at Trance Energy 2009.

In November 2009, Micali recorded and released "Shine On". The track was issued on Unearthed Records and remixed by C-Systems, Luke Terry and Paul Allen. At it promo release stage, the C-Systems vocal mix of the track was featured on Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance and also selected as Tune of the Week. The tune was also supported by Manuel Le Saux, Solarstone, Ronski Speed and others. This track was also featured on Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance Radio Top 15 December 2009 compilation. The follow-up to this track was called "Resynthesize" and it was released on Silent Shore Records, supported by Paul Van Dyk.

2010

In 2010, Colorful Recordings released Jo’s melodic melancholic trancer “Return of the Gulls". During the summer of that same year, he also worked on a collaboration with local producers U-Bahn remixing their 2009 hit "Beautiful Eyes". This brought him to the attention of a larger audience in the Maltese music scene particularly because the track achieved high positions in several local radio stations charts. This successful teaming with U-Bahn was followed up with another collaboration released on Wednesday 1 September 2010: a trance/dance track called "Making You Mine", featuring the voice of Chess.
