Giorgio Zarb was a Qormi born musician, who commenced his musical career with the Banda Dei Curmini most probably under Mro Emanuelu Bartoli. His musical capabilities earned him the directorship of this band of which he was to be its last bandmaster. In 1891, together with Mro Giuseppe Portelli, he helped in the formation of a new band in Qormi, the Filarmonica Pinto, which was constituted within the Casino Pinto, owned by Andrea Abela.

Giorgio Zarb kien mużiċist imwieled Qormi, li beda l-karriera mużikali tiegħu mal-Banda Dei Curmini aktarx taħt Mro. Emanuel Bartoli. Il-kapaċitajiet mużikali tiegħu qalgħulu d-direttur ta’ din il-banda li tagħha kellu jkun l-aħħar surmast tagħha. Fl-1891, flimkien ma' Mro Giuseppe Portelli, għen fil-formazzjoni ta' banda ġdida f'Ħal Qormi, il-Filarmonica Pinto, li kienet kostitwita fi ħdan il-Casino Pinto, propjetà ta' Andrea. Abela.

Ftit snin wara, fil-qofol ta’ tilwima politiku-reliġjuża, numru ta’ mużiċisti minn ġewwa l-Filarmionica Pinto marru joqogħdu fil-Casiono San Giorgio fejn iffurmaw Banda ġdida.

Fid-dawl tal-familjarità tagħhom mas-Surmast Giorgio Zarb, huwa kien wieħed mis-surmasti tal-banda inkarigat biex jipprepara lill-banda għall-ewwel kunċert tagħha.

Għalkemm kien kompożitur prolifiku, illum ma baqax ħafna xogħlijiet tiegħu, bħall-marċi funebri (Afflitta, Corona Funeraria, Mater Dolorosa, Funebre No 1 u Funebre). Nru 2), numru ta' marċi purċissjonali, il-marċi sinfoniċi Patria Invicta u Pinto u innu ddedikat lil San Ġorġ.
