Edwin Galea

Edwin Galea born on 7 October, 1938, he was a singer, composer and musician.

Edwin began his his musical career at the age of 7 years, when he joined St George’s Band Club of Cospicua (Bormla) and later with the band Marija Mater Grazia of Ħaż-Żabbar with them he played the clarinet and the sax.

At the same time he started studyiong the piano.

As a singer Edwin Galea debutted made it at the Domus of Cospicua (Bormla) at the age of 14 years, when he interpreting very well the immortal Granada in Spanish.

He participated in several song festivals, and placing first in the first edition of Canzone d’Oggi 1960.

He also played at Premier and at Strada Stretta with the Oscar Lucas Band at Las Vegas Bar during years he married her only Oscar Lucas daughter Vivienne. and got two children Adrian Galea a good know drummer and singer too and Sonia today know as Sonia Salerno and she was also a singer for some years.

Edwin got a band named Edwin and his Rockers with Manuel Calleja, Alexander Grech, Freddie Zammit and singer Tony Agius.

Edwin got also his own band Ekosonics for some times know also as Edwin Galea and his Ekosonics they played during the sixthies and seventhies.

The line-up of the band was Francis Farrugia on the Bass, Louis Piccione on the drums and Wilfred Buttigieg playing the guitar.

They got many shows around Malta but normaly they where resident band in The Caravelle in Qui-Si-Sana, Pharoah’s Den, The Salina Bay Hotel now The Coastline and later Corinthia Palace at Ħal-Attard.

In November. 1970 he represented Malta in the first editon of the Tokyo International Song Festival and placing twelfth out of 44 participants from 37 different countries with the immortal song, lyrics by Vincent Zammit and music by Celemente Zammit Fejn Tidħol l-imħabba and winning an outsanding performance award and win a car too.

In 1976 he god also a get success with another vinyl hit in Malta double a-side Ma’ Nibdlek Qatt and Malta Ġdida lyrics by Manwel Haber and music by himself, this time the bnad was known as Edwin Galea & Melita Group.

In 1977 he gave concerts for Maltese emigrants in Melbourne and Sydney.

He issued two cd’s Specjali Ghalik (1997) and Feelings has also composed several songs.

Now adays Edwin composed from time to time a song for his niece daughter of Adrian Galea Michela Galea a well known prometted singer and actress.
