The Conventions of Maltese Living Abroad were held in Valletta, Malta in 1969, 2000 and 2010.

The aim of these conventions is that of examining the progress and developments registered in regards to the protection of the rights and interests of Maltese living abroad. Community leaders and delegates from the Maltese diaspora are invited to give keynote speeches about various aspects and issues faced by the Maltese living overseas.

Achievements

  • At the Convention of Leaders of Associations of Maltese Abroad and of Maltese Origin held in Malta in 2000, a resolution was unanimously passed by the delegates establishing the Federation of Maltese Abroad (FOMA).
  • At the next Convention of Maltese Living Abroad held in Malta ten years later, in March 2010, a group of delegates met to discuss the need to update the terms of reference of the Federation. There was a general consensus that the formal setting up of the federation as an organization on a more solid footing with its own constitution and a committee of management was long overdue. This resulted in the establishment of the Federation of Maltese Living Abroad (FMLA).

The 4th Convention of Maltese Living Abroad is to be held in 2015.
