Żaru Muscat tal-Metalla
is an improvised verse folk singer. He was born on the 10th of June 1939 and hails from Mġarr and is probably the most renowned folksinger from north western Malta.
Muscat is a shy, inwardly character who despises antagonistic folk singing in improvised verse, but prefers għana trankwilla, where despite expressing his quick wit, the folksinger avoids polemical lyrics that can verge on the personal or through their double entendre offend minorities or individuals with lesser abilities.
He is still very active on the għana circuit and has performed in bouts with Fredu Abela ż-Żejtuni, Anġlu Theuma tal-Kina, Żeppi Ellul ta' Fellusu and Żaren Ellul ta' Fellusu.
