Lino Grech
Lino Grech (5 November 1930 - 2 December 2013) was an actor, author, script-writer and director from Sliema.
He worked as head in the local Post Office Department.
Lino Grech wrote theatre works of a social and didactic import. As an actor, he interpreted main parts in mainstream theatre: works by Chekov, Lope de Vega, Arthur Miller and Francis Ebejer.
He wrote F’Baħar Wieħed, a social radio serial which was transmitted weekly on Rediffiusion. In 1976, Malta Television director Lino Farrugia wanted it to be broadcast on television. In fact it was the first Maltese drama series and it ran into 30 episodes. Lino played the character of Pinu l-Pastizzar where be partnered the late Gemma Portelli who played Ġoma.
Lino Grech directed plays at the De Porres Theatre, the Catholic Institute and Politeatru.
Grech’s publications include the first part of F’Baħar Wieħed, the photo-story Il-Ġuri Tagħkom and the one act play L-Aħħar Logħba.
During his last years, Lino was busy writing It-Tfal Jiġu bil-Vapuri, the popular Herman Bonaci Productions sitcom Simpatiċi in which Lino was the main scriptwriter and played the role of Is-Sur Callus, and Vittmi.
Lino was married to Frances and and had three sons: Joseph, Godwin and Eric, who is an actor too.
