Fr. Ugo Cremona O.P. was born in Valletta on the 18 September 1936 and made his solemn vows within the Order of the Dominicans on the 11th September 1954.

He furthered his studies in Dublin, Ireland where he was ordained a priest on the 2nd April 1960. Subsequently in 1963, he graduated in Literature.

On his return to Malta, he was posted to Our Lady of the Grotto Convent in Rabat wherefrom he commenced his extensive work in various areas.

On several occasions he was appointed a Prior of various communities within the Dominican Province and taught Philosophy and Theology at the St Thomas Aquino College, Rabat. For several years, he acted as Headmaster of novices and students; was appointed a member on various Councils; and was a Promoter for the Dominican Family; Predication; and the Prayer of The Holy Rosary.

Fr. Ugo is renowned for the knowledge he passed onto various Ecclesiastical Institutions such as: INSERM, the Faculty of Theology at tal-Virtu’, the University of Malta, the Institute for Religious Studies and the Seminary in Gozo.

Fr. Ugo distinguished himself above all as a Preacher. It is quite probable that he preached in most local churches, if not all, including the Mdina Cathedral and St John’s Co-Cathedral and similarly conducted retreats at most convents.

Following Vatican Council II, Fr. Ugo was one of the Promoters for Maltese Liturgy and was also responsible for the active participation of lay people within the Church. He visited numerous parishes delivering conferences to lay persons, guiding them on how they could participate within the Church and the Liturgy, whilst simultaneously leading various groups of lay persons himself. On commencement of his work, he was appointed national chaplain of the Girl Guides Association, the chaplain of the English residents in Malta and also a member on the Diocesan Commission for Tourism and Emigrants. On the introduction of the Charismatic Movement in Malta, he was selected by the Archdiocese to follow up on its development. Fr Hugh also acts as the Spiritual Director of the Pensioners Organisation. During these last years, Fr Hugh held healing prayer services on a monthly basis at the Dominican Church in Rabat.

Fr. Ugo also promoted ecumenical dialogue especially after he was selected as Chairman of the Ecumenical Commission of the Archdiocese.

In 1999, Fr. Ugo was appointed a member on the Archdiocesan Commission on Satanism and the Occult. Fr. Ugo continuously sought various ways and means to preach, using different methods to promote the Word of God. As a result he was frequently invited by the broadcasting media to participate in various programmes, including his regular contribution on Radio Maria Malta in these last years.

On Wednesday 15 th January, 2014 at noon the death of F. Ugo Cremona OP was announced his dead at 77.

The funeral cortege will leave Mater Dei Hospital at 7.30 am to St. Dominic’s Priory in Rabat. At 9.45 am the funeral procession will take place from St. Dominic’s Priory to St. Dominic’s Church where a mass presente cadavre will be celebrated.
