There are probably many of you who will, at the mere mention of the Characters, revert to the time when they performed relentlessly around the island. Those long nights in Paceville’s smoke-filled venues; the band dishing out those familiar tunes; singer Ray Mercieca strumming and singing away to his heart’s content! Given the band’s decision to call it a day some seven years ago, it all starts sounding nostalgic, but in light of their recent reformation, it simply becomes a case of picking up where they left off!

The band’s return has primarily involved a string of live gigs, including a support slot with The Wailers and the recent official reunion concert at Buskett Roadhouse. With three albums and a compilation to their name, Characters have also got a recorded history to maintain and prolong, which is what they did with their So Alive single, a strong indicator of the band’s contemporary presence and unflinching musical passion. New single One In A Million is a powerhouse of a song. Rooted in contemporary Britrock but oozing that good old rock’n’roll swagger, it fits the down-sized line-up (now a four-piece) perfectly.
