Nadia Vella

Nadia Vella (born 20 August 1986) is a singer and vocal coach from Rabat, Malta.

She is a qualified performer / vocal coach having obtained a distinction in LTCL Vocal Teaching (Trinity College, 2011) - NFQ Level 6 (UK qualifications board) and a 3 Year Diploma in Acting and Musical Theatre Hertfordshire Theatre School, 2009. She is a versatile singer, classically trained with the ability to sing both classical, musical theatre numbers and the latest songs in the charts, having also a powerful high belt voice.

Nadia started her musical theatre training at a young age at Masquerade Theatre Arts School Malta and vocal coaching with soprano Gillian Zammit.

At the age of 11 she played Annie at the Manoel Theatre back in 1997. Further roles include 'Annie' in The Ragged Child, 'Rubette’ in The Little Shop of Horrors, ‘Kit-kat girl’ in Cabaret, ‘Morgiana’ in Tin Pan Ali, ‘Clara’ in the opera Werther, ‘Agnes’ in Agnes of God as well as appearing as a soloist in Beyond the Barricade all at the Manoel Theatre. She then worked again with Andy Reiss, of Beyond the Barricade in 2001 as a soloist in Christmas with Beyond the Barricade, (Andy Reiss, University of Malta Campus Theatre.) She has performed in The Young People’s Messiah and played ‘Mary’ in Rock Nativity, at St. James Cavalier.

Nadia was a finalist in the 1st edition of L-Isfida on Net TV at 2003.

Whilst sitting for her Musical Theatre diploma course at Hertfordshire Theatre School roles under training included 'Soloist' in Musical Moments, (Anne Marie Lewis Thomas, Queen Mother Theatre) 'Angel' in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, (Jack Gunn, Queen Mother Theatre) 'Maria' in Lorca's Yerma, (Kirk Foster, Market Theatre) 'Countess de la Roche Piquet' in Don Juan on Trial, (Simon Bell, Market Theatre) 'Lydia' in Pride and Prejudice, (Kirk Foster, Market Theatre) 'Maggie' in Matchgirls (Pete Gallagher, QMT) 'Helene' in Sweet Charity, (Kirk Foster, QMT) 'Catherine' in Memory of Water, (Mark Stobbart, QMT) 'Milena' in Once we were mothers, (Iain Jones, John Gardiner Studio) 'Soloist' in World War 2 Revue (Kirk Foster, Market Theatre) 'Ghost of Christmas Past' in Scroogie Poogie TIE tour (Self directed) 'Medea' in Moments from Medea (Hilary Lyons, Market Theatre) 'Soloist' in Noel Coward Revue. (Jo Croydon Foster, Market Theatre.) Nadia was lucky enough to work with people like Sebastian Abineri, Russell Labey, Frank Thompson, Jenny Gould, Tim Whiting, Bernard Sharpe, Laurence Broomfield, Sam Lavender, Denise Mulholland and appeared twice in front of resident judges of 'Over the Rainbow' Jacqui Hancock and David Grindrod.

Since graduating, she has performed at the Broadway Theatre(UK) as a soloist in Something Wonderful directed by Richard Ward Roden (Md, Les Miserables), ‘Zerlina’ in the original cast of The Lovers Inn 'Elphaba' in Encore directed by Helene Crosse at the Campus West Theatre in Welwyn Garden City and performed for two months in Hamburg’s ‘Weinachtcircus’ as well as being one of the 100 finalists in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Over the Rainbow. Whilst in Malta during 2010-2011 she performed acoustic sets with Maltese guitarist Keith 'Kiko' Muscat, played 'Ruth' in the Easter time play Is it Me? (Marc Cabourdin, St. James Cavallier) and was a judge on local tv talent competition 'Arpeġġi' - Net TV Malta which was followed by the South Western TIE UK tour of Oliver.

In 2013 she sang the part of 'Eponine' at the Les Miserables film premiere at The Eden Cinemas followed by 'Comedy Tonight' by [[Masquerade] and playing 'Lupita' in the European premiere of Is it Me directed by Marc Cabourdin.

In 2014 she was lead performer in 'A night on Broadway' at Teatru Rjal, 50 years of Maltese Music at Smart City under the musical direction of Mro. Paul Abela and A night at the Theatre with the PBS Orchestra under the direction of Paul Abela and Joe Brown.

She was lead actress in the musical video of local band Red Elecktrick's Young Again.

Recently on the 6th and 7th September, 2015 she was involved in the musical 1565 composed by Mro. Paul Abela, lyrics by Malcolm Galea and Artistic Director Anthony Bezzina, accompanied by the Malta Philarharmonic Orchestra on the occasion of the 450 Anniversary of the Great Siege of Malta.

Nadia works as a professional singer and actress and vocal coach.
