Mariah Yasmin Cutajar was born on the 19th of May, 2000. She lives in Marsaskala with her family. She used to go to Junior College in Msida, but she decided to leave and she started working with ‘Chemimart’ as an assistant and she feels quite happy there.

She says that as long as she can remember, she has always been singing in her house, but despite her good voice, her lack of self-belief in her talent and in herself stopped her from going beyond her bedroom. It was the only place where she really expressed herself, between four walls. Her situation was like for quite a number of years.

Until the beginning of 2017 came, she was going through some really tough times, despite that she often sang, and sometimes even wrote some lyrics she wasn’t believing in herself enough, and that she couldn’t achieve what others like her have. Nonetheless she decided to defy her own insecurities and overcome this challenge when she started to attend guitar lessons and after some months she saw on Facebook that La Voix School of Performing Arts where accepting new students. At that moment Mariah thought this is my opportunity to try and see if singing is what I want to do or not. From that moment I went for my first lesson with La Voix on the 12th of January 2017, and after that lesson I realized that my life is all about music'.

She continued to go to “La Voix School of Performing Arts” with Gillian Attard and the technical teachers Chris Mallia and Dario Mifsud Bonnici, and then continued to learn with Charlene Brincat and Klinsmann Coliero.

On the 30 of April 2017 she competed in “La Voix Singer Showcase” organised in the same school, and won 2nd place with the song Toxic, and then also competed in “La Voix Competition” with the songs Titanium and Wonderful World with which she won 2nd and 3rd place. In October 2017 she took part in a contest organised by Erseb Production “Raise Your Voice” and sang Bring Me Back to Life and You Don’t Own Me and won 2nd and 3rd place with the songs Titanium and The A-Team.

With the outcomes of these festival Mariah Yazmin had the opportunity to go and sing outside of her home country, when in 23rd March 2018 she went to Poland and contested in “Culture Caravan” where she sang Nothing Compares To You and What’s Up and ended up being the overall winner of the festival which had 240 participants in it.

Mariah Yazmin has also took part in many activities that collected funds for certain causes like the ones done by Dar tal-Providenza and others, apart from the fact that had already started to sing in local pubs and activities in many bars like “Casey’s Bar”, “Beercave Bar”, “Rock Republic Bar”, “Ivan Grech Concert”, “Festa tal-Mosta” accompanied by several guitarists like Nicky Griscti Soler, Myles Azzopardi, Sean Anastasi and recently she is working with Zack Camilleri and Kresten Graham apart from the fact that she featured on Don’t Stop Me Now 2017, which is a program that is streamed on Net TV and also on Xejk and TVM.

She has learned to play the guitar, then the bass and the piano and now she wishes to start playing the drums.

Mariah Yazmin has several desires that she wishes to do in the near future or at any point in her future of which are; doing the “Trinity” exam and getting her diploma, doing more gigs, singing in Rockestra, continuing to write music and singing more outside of Malta to bring honour to her country and aspiring to become a professional singer.

Apart from singing her hobbies contain reading, lyric writing, playing videogames and stargazing.
