Louis Laganà is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta. He lectures in Fine Art and Art History at the Junior College. He also lectures on Art, Culture and Tourism with the Institute for Tourism with the Institute For Tourism, Travel and Culture, History of Image Making at the Digital Arts Department, Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, and Psychoanalysis and Art at the Psychology Department, University of Malta. Dr Laganà is an art historian, critic, curator and practicing artist. He specialises in Modern and Contemporary Art History and his research interests include 20th Century Art, Visual Culture, Psychoanalysis and Art criticism and theory, Jungian Aesthetics, Primitivism and Cultural Tourism.

Dr. Laganà delivered papers in many conferences in different countries and contributed articles in learned journals and newspapers. He is a member of the American Society for Aesthetics, the Association of Art Historians, London, the PsyArt Foundation, United States and the Vittoriosa Historical and Cultural Society in Malta. He also curated many art exhibitions in Malta and abroad and wrote the texts of numerous art exhibition catalogues and booklets. His publications also include a text book for Post-Secondary students, Systems of Knowledge: A Multidisciplinary Approach, 2006 (revised edition 2010), and the essay Homage to Fertility which is featured in English and in French in the International Encyclopaedia, 100,000 years of Beauty by Gallimard, Babylone Publishers, Gallimard, 2009. He wrote monographs on Charles Cassar (BOV Bank publication), Elio Scuderi (Published by Eugenio Maria Falcone Editore), Galina Troizky and many other local and foreign artists. He also published the APS Bank Art Exhibition booklets 2011, 2012 and 2013 (Malta). His recent books include the APS Bank Two Generations of Maltese Artistic Families 2014 and 2015. Dr Laganà’s works in progress are the biography of artist and sculptor, Ġanni Bonnici and a book on Maltese Contemporary Artists.
