Debut Single From Ellena George

Fresh-faced, brand new to the local scene and slipping in under the radar is one Ellena George, a twenty-something singer, for whom singing has been on the cards since childhood. Like most Maltese musicians, she juggles her day job with her passion for music, and after years of hard work, doubts and dreams, she has finally released her debut single, Breakaway.

Written and recorded with Toby, one of Malta’s leading DJ/producers and an artist in his own right, the song reels off an electro-lite rhythm that holds it pace steadily to allow Ellena’s sharp vocals the space to ease out a gentle yet catchy vocal hook. The lyrics are simple and to the point, outlining an optimistic sense of expression and laced with a clear-cut pop sensibility.

By her own admission, Ellena aims to share a piece of herself through her music, and to an extent, the new single reflects a degree of personal experience, as she feels that this adds to the authenticity and spirit of the music. With Breakaway, the theme in hand is essentially the pursuit of dreams, and ultimately their realization through determination and self-belief. Idealistic to say the least, but there’s no harm in trying, and besides it’s a pretty decent philosophy to live by, isn’t it? With Breakaway, Ellena George has got off to a pretty good start, here’s to more of the same!
