Claudia Magrin

Claudia Magrin born and grew up at Tal-Ibraġġ on 4 August, 1978 as Claudia Cordina. Now she is married to Daniel Magrin and lives in Swatar. She is the mother to three girls; Christina, who is a singer, Carla and Chiara.

Music has been her first love. Claudia started studying piano and theory lessons at the age of 10 under the direction of Ms. Miriam Portelli ATCL, LRSM and furthered her studies at Ms. Lydia Buttigieg BA (Hons) Music. At seventeen years of age Claudia was a Royal Schools of Music (RSM), London Registered Teacher and started private piano tuition to a number of students and prepared them for RSM examinations.

She was into singing from a tender age where she was given many solo performances in school. Later on she took up singing lessons at Ms. Mariella Pace Asciak and later at Ms. Alice Horne for Soprano Technique where she furthered her vocal tuition. Under supervision of Fr. Bajada, aged fourteen, she took part in the remake of Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, and other such musicals organised at the CFK in Fleur-de Lys.

At fifteen years of age, Claudia organised the first musical talent show at her hometown Parish in Ibrag. At sixteen years of age she was appointed music director and co-ordinator of the Msida Sixth Form Soiree. In 2007, she worked with Mro Joe Brown on a project called Unite, Unite Europe which involved interviewing Toto Cutugno and creating a music video to his song. This event was exposed on local media.

Claudia co-directed a production for University's Teatru Qroqq with Dr.Isabelle Gatt, Head of Creative Arts and Drama, entitled 'Il-Festa tal-Infanta' at MITP, where she also held a main singing role. She collaborated with Philip Vella where songs for the Musical were composed and recorded.

Claudia sings and plays the organ at mass regularly on Sundays at her local parish. She is responsible for teaching Music and Drama for the pageant Musicals which she writes, composes for, produces and directs. Most recent were the productions Mamma Mia, and Missjoni Possibbli which encompassed a cast and crew of over ninety children.

Claudia holds a B.Ed (Hons) degree in Childhood Education and took extra credits in Musical Theatre at the University of Malta under the guidance of Dr. John Schranz. Her Music dissertation supervised by Dr. Marcel Degabriele and Ms Moira Azzopardi Barbieri awarded her the highest grade, where she specialised in creating a Music syllabus and guidelines for all teachers to be used in Primary Schools.

Claudia has since been awarded scholarship and has completed her Master of Science in Leadership in Education at the University of Leicester (UK) where she focused on holistic music teaching through vocal training and technique, listening and appraising, and musical composition. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Malta Council for Arts, Science and Technology and is Teaching Practice Examiner at the University of Malta.
