Charles Izzo
Charles Izzo (6 July 1912 - 21 September 1986) was a Maltese actor best known for his part in local teleserial Wenzu u Rożi. He played the part of the Notary but was popularly known as Kaspitina.
Charles started his stage career at the Salesians’ Theatre in Sliema, acting and singing with San Ginesio company. He was also a member of Valletta’s Gioventù Cattolica, in the days when only males could take part on stage. He acted with many companies namely Goldoni, Maleth, Malta Dramatic League, Stardust and Izzo / Navarro, a company he co-owned with Johnnie Navarro.
His repertoire on stage includes Iz-Zija ta’ Karlu, Iż-Żewġ Surġenti, Menz, Nimxu mal-Moda u Tliet Anġli. On television he played a part in one serial which made him most popular; the Notary in George Zammit’s Wenzu u Rożi.
Charles was also a script writer. His Ta’ Min Hi l-Ħtija won first prize in the Manoel Theatre contest. Another of his plays, Għajnuna tal-Insara, was performed in Turin’s Salesians Theatre. But his most popular script was H.M.S. Topsy Turvy.
Charles died when he was in the process of translating Cin Cilla for Valletta Dramatic Company. The translation was continued after his demise by his actor/writer son Joe Izzo.
