Armando Zahra

Armando Zahra (25 April 1909 - 2 June 1982) was a Maltese boxer.

He started boxing at the age of 12 at the Salesians’ in Sliema. He used to train with friends and, as he could not afford to buy the proper attire, he used a pair of shorts hung to a belt and a pair of gloves someone gave him.

He had the chance to train in a professional way when he became a soldier. His main adversary was Englishman Sunny Ruffling. They fought three times, with one of the fights held at the Manoel Theatre.

Armando was Malta’s boxing champion for 35 years and 11 years champion of the Mediterranean.
