Żaren Mangion Il-Folfol
was an improvised folk singer from Żejtun. Little has been written about him, although he ran a wine shop well known for holding folk music sessions frequented by some of Malta's best performers.
Many memorable folk music sessions were held at his outlet, now closed and probably demolished in Misraħ Santa Marija in the northern quarter of Żejtun.
Unfortunately this town has not documented its considerable contribution to Maltese folk music and no known written contribution has been published, not even in parochial magazines which usually focus on religious dogma and brass band clubs.
Mangion passed away in 1996 and is by and large forgotten.
