Żaru Mifsud l-Għaxqi

Żaru Mifsud Il-Għaxqi.

was as the nickname suggests, a folksinger from Għaxaq. He was born on the 10th October 1933. Emigrated to North America where he folk sang in the Maltese community clubs of Detroit and Toronto.

Back in Malta he featured with the most renowned folksingers of the Seventies, including Żeppi Meli ta' Sika, Żaren Mifsud ta' Vestru, Pawlu Seychell l-Għannej and Ninu Galea l-Kalora.

In a teasing bout, known as Tal-Qamel (The Fleas) with a balding Kalora, Mifsud sang:

          Jien rasi bix-xagħar mimlija
          Il-qamel fiha kemm jirgħu
          Int f'rasek m'għandek l-ebda xagħra
          U l-qamel tgħallmu jiskejzjaw.
          Il-qamel tiegħi kemm hu dħuli
          jara in-nies aktar jidritta
          u tiegħek min-nies qed jibża
          qiegħed fl-irdoss taħt il-beritta.
          Għandi moħħi mimli bl-għana
          risposti kemm trid nagħtik
          u xagħri mimlija bil-qamel
          jien lilek minn kollox ngħaddik.

          Jien għidtlek biex provi tagħtini
          mhux bħal għedewwa, bħala ħbieb
           'ma jekk injurant tgħajjar lili
          veru tkun l-akbar giddieb.

There are several keen għana followers who declare that Mifsud was their favourite folksinger of all. He passed away in 2001.
