Tonio Vella

Tonio Vella was born on 27 August 1962. At Naxxar. Tonio is an Actor.

He began his theatrical career in 1977 with a group of people at the center of Naxxar Parish, which was and still survive until today.

The first time they went on stage was a chance for one of the players would participate in a play, fell ill a few days before and Tonio asked the director to make the part. Tonio was very shy young man refused to work part but after much insistence by the director, accepted and worked a play a small part in this. Since then never looked back and began his career path. Tonio Vella better known as maize, not only worked but also for stage productions for TV, radio and a number of videos with Elio Lombardi which originated precisely the popular character of Majsi.

Although Tonio to see him work the more comic parts, however parts in serious drama worked well. Among them figure out the part of Padre Pio, drama about the life of Dun Ġorġ Preca, Mother Teresa, Mgr. De Piro, Bernardette Soubirous and number of passion plays where he interprets the part of Jesus Christ. Tonio worked under several directors including Lino Grech, Joe Izzo, John Suda, Joe Quattromani, Żepp Camilleri and others where he continued to put his experience in the field of Theatre.

Worked in several major theaters around Malta and Gozo, including Manoel Theatre, at the Catholic Institute, Theatre of the Knights of St. James, as well as Aurora and Astra Theatre in Victoria Gozo.

Tonio Vella

In 1992 Tonio won the 'Best Actor Award' competition of the Malta Cine Circle Amateur film with a part in Mela Darba writing Elio Lombardi and in 2007 won the Best Supporting Actor Award-act Comedy in the Malta Television Awards. In addition to the recreation of the drama, Tonio has also recreation singing, actually worked in a number of Operetti and Musicals. He also sings with several choirs country particularly with the choir Jubilate Deo of Naxxar which belongs has since its establishment in 1977.

Tonio was invited several times to give performances abroad. In 2001 was invited along with other Maltese artists to participate in Malta Day which each year is organized on 8 September in London. In 2002, in 2004 and in 2011 was invited by the Maltese community in Australia to give 'Shows' in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide where Queen's Land and very well welcomed by the Maltese living in the Continent. Other exhibitions of overseas Tonio had in Tunisia and Sicily.

Apart from the theater Tonio also worked in a number of television series including Il-Kerrejja, Ħal Bla Ras, Qegħdin Sew, Is-Sur Gawdenz Bilocca, Fredu il-Fra, Boxxla Xjaten, Midinbin, La Morna Morna and others. Also directed the play Idejn il-Vjolinista of Alfred C. Sant, the first series of drama Marvin by Mark Calleja and comic series Boxxla Xjaten Joe A Cachia shown on TV stations.

Tonio Vella was in charge of the Maltese film Xrar (Sparks) that shown in all cinemas theaters of Malta and Gozo. Tonio works not only as an actor for stage or for television but also play a role as author and director of several productions.
