During the nineties and into the 2000s various original musicals were produced mostly part of the prestigious arts festival [[Iljieli Mediterranji]] (last held in 2002) where the Doreen Galea Choir featured several times as part of the cast. To mention some: ''Andrelisa'' (1994), ''It-Tfajla tal-Palazz'' (1997), ''Il-Hanut tal-Ġugarelli'' (1999), ''Manwel Manwel'' (2000), ''Rita ta’ Cascia'' (2000), ''Jien Ġużeppi'' (2006) and the ballet ''Red Rose for a Ballerina'' (1997).

(Il-Kor ta’ Doreen Galea) or The Doreen Galea Choir saw its begining in the early nineties, when Maltese singer Doreen Galea had just started giving singing lessons to some students: Gillian Attard, Marvic Lewis, Priscilla Psaila, Miriam Christine Borg and Fabrizio Faniello amongst others.

As the word spread children began to increase and it was a natural decision for Doreen to form her choir. The ages of the children varied from five to fifteen years.

The Galea family is renowned as a musical family. Doreen is a singer and lyric writer, her husband Sammy Galea a pianist, compoer and arranger, and their three sons are all involved in the local music scene: Dominic Galea is also a pianist, composer and arranger, Benedict Galea is a drummer and owes the Wave Music Centre Shop in Floriana, and Manolito Galea is a sound engineer and manages Litos Place recording studio. Manolito was also an establishes singer till 1998 participating in various festivals namely the Malta Song Festival 1994 where together with his mother Doreen won first price with Forsi music by his father Sammy and lyrics Raymond Mahoney.

Doreen Galea’s Choir was a house hold name due to numerous appearances on TV stations and Charity shows around Malta and Gozo, apart from its role in Christmas Eve and wedding Masses.

The choir was also involved in two CD releases named Għanjiet Tal-Milied Tradiżżjonali (KTA) and Ninni La Tibkix Iżjed (SKS).

At one time the choir had over seventy members featuring names who would later on in the career make success as individuals. Among those children emerged Gillian Attard, Priscilla Psaila, Julie Zahra, Clifford Galea, Dario Bezzina, Grecia Bezzina, Sarah Harrision, Marilena Gauci, Rodney Gauci, Christabelle Borg, Vanessa Gatt, Thea Saliba, Daniel Testa, Roseann Cordina, Kimberly Manicaro, Emerson Farrugia, Corinne Caruana, Tiziana Calleja, Annalise Ellul, Alison Ellul and more…

Singers such as Olivia Lewis and Marvic Lewis, Miriam Christine Borg, Leontine Camilleri and Fabrizio Faniello also attended individual lessons at some time or another.

The Doreen Galea’s Choir has been inactive since 2008. Certainly, the work of Doreen Galea has definitely left its mark in the Maltese music scene. Several of Doreen’s ex-students have succeeded in their musical careers.
