Maltese metallers Loathe have quietly risen to the upper reaches of the local metal scene, establishing a foothold that has seen them extend their reach beyond our shores. Their last EP, 2005’s Up Close and Personal had signalled a turn towards heavier riffage and direct lyrical address, and this, their third offering sees them applying even more weight to that chosen path! Remarkably harder than anything they’ve released to date, the five featured tracks all subscribe to a blueprint that essentially merges jagged guitarwork, penetrating bass lines and pounding rhythms into an unstoppable metal stampede, but one delivered with utmost precision and grit.

On his part, Beast is unrelenting, plying his vocal dexterity with equal punch. It may sound occasionally undecipherable to the uninitiated, but he proves proficient in altering his vocal intensity – an art in itself - to allow enough space for clarity. Of particular note, the track Children of a Lesser God – featuring local starlet Carrie Haber on additional vocals - reflects a broader vision on the band’s part. It Will Get Worse, in contrast to its lyrical motif, actually gets better, while end track This Overwhelming Grasp of Solitude’s thunderous assault embodies the incredible agility that Loathe have developed in their few years of existence. Head for the moshpit and get ready to rumble!
