== Rogue users? (settled through MW upgrade in 2015) ==
I have purged a bunch more spam bot regs today. Most of them yahoo. for a little while I have added yahoo to the banned list for new registrations (shouldn't affect existing users), until I can look at revisiting the captcha stuff, which may need an upgrade to a new system (and some code install at the server). Meanwhile we can monitor the numb rod requests coming in.

I have now added config settings that prevent blocked users form logging in, and require them to have confirmed their email address before being allowed to edit. See

Hmmm. A couple more appeared overnight, so it looks like the extension settings will need tweaking a touch. Done a little more today but will have to keep an eye out...

OK, more work on spammer accounts. I have just configured the Bad Behaviour extension to query the [https://www.projecthoneypot.org/home.php|Project Honeypot] blacklist, added hotmail.com to the SpamBlacklist extension blacklist domains and have looked at slimming down the bannedips list that we were using (mainly by trying something similar in structure but adding as I go). Te original was '''very''' effective but something of a memory killer for PHP, so we can't really use that.

Technical Considerations

Logging in (settled)

Is it possible to have a 'logging in / sign up' on the front page (www.m3p.com.mt)? --Tony Grimaud(talk) 22:02, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

This is an excellent idea! Why didn't I think of this?  :-) Let see if Darren would rather do it himself or whether I should just go ahead and do it. --Toni Sant (talk) 12:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
ditto. It's now on my radar Stephensd 16:30, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Login/register basic link now on front page Stephensd 23:15, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Short URLs (settled)

How do we make the URLs for individual pages shorter/prettier? --Toni Sant (talk) 17:51, 20 October 2010 (UTC) Sorted by User:Stephensd. --Toni Sant (talk) 11:01, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Appear to be working. Install seems to have caused few if any issues. If you do find some, let me know Stephensd 10:47, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
That's great! Thanks. We're now at the beginning of a new era. :-) --Toni Sant (talk) 10:58, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Special characters (settled)

  • We need to add a list of special characters (esp. Maltese letters) in the edit page. - Toni Sant (talk)
My initial choice of embedded font for the body didn't help; there may have been some of the more common ISO-8859-1 chars missing. I've changed that default font now, to use more consistent browser fonts. This should help. Stephensd 15:01, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
  • We need to make sure that we address the use of Maltese characters, especially in names, in the help section on the style guidelines page, which will perhaps be a sub-page/section on the editorial policy --Toni Sant (talk) 12:41, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I think the best and easier way for the contributors is to have the Maltese characters (ċ ġ ħ ż) displayed as buttons along side the Bold and Italic buttons on top of the text fields, if that is at all possibility. Tony Grimaud(talk) 21:18, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
It's good to have this sort of stuff where it's visible but I haven't seen an iteration with them at the top on the tool bar. --Toni Sant (talk) 06:57, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
We now have this facility just below the 'Save' button 'edit' and 'file upload' pages. It's not an ideal location, but at least it's there and we can revisit the location of this function under 'Look & Feel' in due course. --Toni Sant (talk) 17:25, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Error pages (settled)

What's the best sort of 404 page we can have? - Toni Sant (talk)

I've put a (basic) m3p 404 page in place Stephensd 15:01, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
They're looking great. Thanks! --Toni Sant (talk) 19:41, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
