Clean-up Needed

The text currently on this page needs further work. It was most likely imported or reproduced from a website associated with the subject of the page - possibly through a process involving far-from-perfect machine translation, often with awkward results. It is awaiting the attention of an experienced M3P editor, which could be you. It may be slightly out of date, or may need other elements taken care of appropriately, including proofreading or copy-editing for grammar and style.

Skald

Skald are a quintet formed recently in 2018 to breathe life into Maltese literature and culture with their own blend of original music.

Members

The Band

The name Skald derives from the literal Maltese word "splinter". However, it also translates to the ancient Scandinavian word for a composer who recites poems and hymns honouring heroes and their accomplishments.

All five started their musical journeys at relatively young ages – some during their teenage years whilst others even earlier. Hailing from different backgrounds, they aim to amalgamate their varied skill sets into new exciting artistic expression.

The percussionist Bertu comes from the eclectic world of ethnic music while Gabriel invokes his own classical influences with the violin. Simon brings home the raw strength of rock and blues on his bass guitar and meanwhile Jesmar dials us back to our roots, with his interpretations of traditional Maltese folk music. Lastly, Aaron serenades with his vocals and seams together the diverse energies with the sound of his acoustic guitar. Skald has come to life from the foundations of our musical heritage and aspires to invigorate it with innovative musical vision.
