Raymond Gatt Il-Bastjaniż is an improvised verse folk singer. Born in the San Bastjan parish of Qormi, hence his nickname, on the 17th November 1955, he emigrated to Melbourne Australia.

In Melbourne he has folksung in the main għana locations including Ir-Rampa,the Albion Club and the premises of Ġorġ Aquilina ż-Żgħir, with Salvu Brincat Il-Ħajbru, Salvu Zerafa l-Kampanjol, Fredu Cachia l-Fra and veteran Gozitan folk singer Ġużeppi Azzopardi Ras il-Bagħal.

Gatt has also written one folk balled, entitled Is-Sette Giugno, regarding the Maltese revolt of 1919, when four Maltese civilians were killed by British soldiers. It is written on twenty six stanzas.

Around 2001 Gatt folksung with the noted Salvu Galea Tal-Kalora, in honour of folk music promoter Ġorġ Ebejer Il-Giża. Gatt is a frequent visitor to his homeland, where he enjoys taking part in ongoing folk music sessions.
