Raquela Dalli Gonzi

Raquela Dalli Gonzi born on 5, May, and lives at Ħ'Attard. She is a singer, song-writer.

Raquela's interest in music began at the age of 4, going on to study violin for 9 years. She has been developing her music skills as a performer in the Music Ensemble at the University of Malta, wherein she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Italian and History of Art. Raquela has graduated as an Italian teacher and is now working in a church school.

Raquela has participated in various concerts including soirees at St. Aloysius College Sixth Form, in 2004 and 2005. She joined Voices in 2004, a biannual string of popular music concerts organized for philanthropic causes. In Voices concerts, she performed as a soloist with the song Soar and in 2006 with the song The Voice Within by Christina Aguilera. In 2006, Raquela was part of the main cast of Seussical - The Musical by Masquerade Theatre Arts Company and performed in the musical ensemble entitled Invitation at St. James Cavalier.

Raquela has continued to show her potential in her performance at the National Orchestra Goes Pop Concert 2007 edition.

Additionally, in 2007 she has embarked into two new challenges. Raquela participated together with Ludwig Galea in a duet competition on a new music tv programme, Simply Music, which they eventually won. This gave them the unique opportunity of being the supporting act during the Simply Red Concert in Malta in November 2007.

She performed at the Mediterranean Conference Centre for the Euro Night event held on New Year's Eve in 2007 conducted by Sigmund Mifsud and was also guest singer at the Earth Garden Festival held in May 2008 at Ta Qali National Park. On the 3rd of August she performed at the Farsons Beer Festival with the brass band conducted by Sigmund Mifsud.

With the return of Voices- Tell Me Why concert, held in October 2008, Raquela participated as one of the soloists in the shows. Following such a successful journey, in 2009 she was selected amongst 19 other finalists to participate in the Malta Song for Europe 2009 that was held on the 7th of February 2009. Rockestra was another important event for the singer where she performed alongside the Philarmonic Orchestra, on the 12th of September 2009.

Later that year she took on a challenge against another 1,000 italian contestants to sing with Gigi D'Alessio, and was chosen to sing alongside the famous Italian artist on one of his tours in Turin, Italy, on the 22nd of November 2009.

Raquela has been selected amongst other finalists from various countries to perform in the International Competition of Istanbul Songs in Turkey in May 2010.

Following a successful era of events, in July 2010, Raquela was given the honour of performing alongside well established foreign and local artists including Riccardo Cocciante, Dionne Warwick and the tenor Joseph Calleja, with whom she exuded the most “amazing and perfect” interpretation of the Italian song Vivo Per Lei originally sung by Andrea Bocelli.

Raquela had taken on the challenge and was selected amongst 15 other finalists to participate in the Malta Song for Europe 2011 that was held on the 4th of February 2011 held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, placing fifth.

Raquela has continued to show her potential as a music artist when she collaborated with the local duo Tenishia on their successful track entitled Shores of Eden, which reached the international scene of trance and was described as ‘mixing mind-shivering vocals with a delicate prog-trance sound’(Armada Music, 2011).

She has collaborated extensively with a band of musicians at a Community Worship Group for the past one and a half years. She has also taken up writing lyrics for her own songs and this experience has helped her formulate her ideas and passion clearly for music. She has produced her own lyrics and melody for the edition of the Maltasong Contest 2013.

In September 2013 Raquela was invited again to participate in Rockestra performing one of Pink Floyd’s epic “The Great Gig in the Sky”, ‘which the orchestra executed to perfection and to which the singer added a grandiose delivery.’ In December 2013 Raquela was invited for the first time to perform at Teatru Unplugged 16. Raquela, a ‘stand-out artist, whose talent has been showcased time-and-time again on the national stage, was the highlight of Rockestra in 2014, performing a duet of Say Something with Konrad Pule, originally by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. In 2015 she took on, A Thousand Years, originally by Christina Perri. ‘

In June 2014, Raquela participated in the event held in Gozo Leone Goes Pop (7th edition) at Independence Square, Victoria. In July 2014, Raquela was asked to interpret Pink Floyd’s Great Gig in the Sky yet again at Beer Fest with Malta Rock Movement concert that featured two timeless Pink Floyd albums – Wish you were here and Dark side of the moon. The impressive interpretation of such a song provided Raquela with another invitation at the 50 years of Independence event at the Valletta Grand Harbour.

Raquela is currently working on producing her very first album alongside the extremely talented pianist and composer Sam Hayman, aiming to achieve a wider experience in the music field and is growing into the successful artist she was born to be!
