Festivals Malta Launches the Second Edition of Mużika Mużika: Submissions for Mużika Mużika 2023 now open

Earlier today the applications for Mużika Mużika – Festival Kanzunetta Maltija closed; Festivals Malta has announced that it has once again received 149 submissions for the third edition of this festival.

The Minister of National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici stated that: "this Festival which has now entered our annual cultural calendar, fills us with great courage and energy to see our beautiful Maltese language take its place in the center of Mużika Mużika."

"As a Government we are committed to continue working to see this Festival grow and spread to a wider audience," added Minister Bonnici.

The Chairman of Mużika Mużika, Mr. Raymond Bugeja said that this festival had a great response from the very beginning and "from the submissions we received it seems that the legacy of Mużika Mużika will continue to grow. I am very happy with the applications we have received, now the process to select the semifinalists begins, for sure the selection will not be easy because the level keeps rising!"

"It seems that every year the battle for the semifinals will continue to get tougher and tougher. I'm sure the jury has a tough job ahead of them. I would like to thank everyone who applied for the full confidence they have in the festival," said Paul Abela, the artistic director of Mużika Mużika.

The Festivals Malta team will now start the process leading to the selection of the semifinalists. The first phase consists of several evaluation sessions by an expert jury, after which the best 40 songs will be selected. In the second phase, the artists of these songs will perform their song live accompanied by a backing track in front of a professional jury. It is worth saying that this jury will be different from that of the previous phase. After this stage, the 20 songs that will participate in the semifinals of the festival in March 2023 will be selected. "This is a process that we take very seriously because we believe that the selection process should be fair and that it guarantees the quality of the songs selected," said the CEO of Festivals Malta, Annabelle Stivala.

"Mużika Mużika is probably the biggest investment that could be made in the Maltese music industry because not only does it offer an exceptional platform to Maltese artists but it elevates the Maltese language which we are so proud of, and puts our language on the forefront. Mużika Mużika is one of a series of events that Festivals Malta organises with such optimism, and it does this through all its employees, with the utmost seriousness and professionalism in order to present a festival of the highest level to the Maltese and Gozitan people. I am really satisfied with the great response we have had so far. I look forward to the next few months as from now on the preparations will intensify from every aspect, both for the song selections, as well as all the necessary preparations in order to guarantee the biggest musical show produced in our country. In the end, this is what the Maltese public has come to expect from us and from this Festival. And it is appropriate to celebrate our language in this way. I encourage you to continue following us on this exciting journey towards the third edition of Mużika Mużika which starts now," stated Aaron Zahra, the Chairman of Festivals Malta.
