Festivals Malta Launches the Second Edition of Mużika Mużika: Submissions for Mużika Mużika 2022 now open

Following the much awaited return of the Festival Kanzunetta Maltija with the first edition of Mużika Mużika; a televised song festival which attracted over 320,000 viewers over 3 nights, Festivals Malta announced the dates of the second edition of Mużika Mużika which will take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th March 2022.

Interested applicants who wish to participate in the second edition of this festival may apply on the Mużika Mużika website between the 17th July and the 15th of October 2021.

Present for the launch was Minister José Herrera who applauded the success attained by the first edition of the festival, which was produced during very challenging times, nonetheless managed to achieve a very high production standard as recognised by viewers, participants and key stakeholders in the entertainment industry.

Our aim is to continue investing in these festivals, both as a platform for Maltese artists to showcase their talent in our national language and also as a means of providing high quality entertainment for the viewers and followers of the festivals, said Herrera.

Mużika Mużika Chairman, Raymond Bugeja, stated After the success of the first edition, I am very proud to say that Mużika Mużika will be returning next March. Preparations for the festival are already underway and we are looking forward to start receiving submissions. Last year we had 149 submissions from artists representing different music genres and this year we are hoping to see an increase. We encourage everyone to apply, irrespective of the song’s genre. This country has no shortage of great talent, and Mużika Mużika is a testament to that.

Mr Bugeja announced that in addition, the semi-finalists as well as a selection of emerging artists, will also feature in a television programme on TVM, which will document the journey leading up to the festival.”

One of the main aims of Festivals Malta is to provide various platforms where artists can perform while, at the same time, enriching the Maltese cultural calendar with high quality productions. I can safely say that through Mużika Mużika we have managed to exceed all expectations and then some; this festival has once again put Maltese music back in the spotlight, which it so much deserves, explained Festivals Malta Chairman, Mr. Norman Hamilton.

Ms. Annabelle Stivala, CEO of Festivals Malta highlighted that a festival like Mużika Mużika’s contribution goes beyond providing a platform for local artists to express themselves, it also creates several jobs for people who work in the entertainment industry – a goal that has become a huge priority for us during these challenging times.

This year’s prizes for Mużika Mużika will be that of €20,000 for first prize, €10,000 for second prize and €5,000 for the third prize. Prizes will also be given to The Best Interpretation and The Best Composition. The semi-finalists will also receive the sum of €500 each to cover some of the expenses related to the festival. Last but not least, similar to the last edition, Festivals Malta will also be producing a music video for the winning song.
