Marlene Darmanin

Marlene Darmanin was born in Ħaż-Żabbar on 21 January 1950. She was a Singer.

She received her education in the primary school, continued the secondary at Maria Assunta, where after several tests passed them successfully and in 1968 had entered at the Court as Secretary which was specialies in short hand and work there until 1984 when he left the job after married.

Reared in an era of Festivals that were held in Italy, most San Remo shown that in Malta on RAI television, and also a revolution in music of The Beatles in England, was often sang with a song, more of Mina and Orietta Berti she heard from on Rediffusion while he was also giving her time in housework.

But even though he loves singing, never got to learn the voice, though it was still concern itself in music scene of that time, until in 1968 when she was close to 18 years took part in her first Grand Festival was Żurrieq Song Festival was organiser by Dun Żaren Tonna, and had gone well, even w finished in first place, as it did also in the editions of the following year, incourage from that experience, began to participate in various festival at that time that took place around Malta, among these festivals can figure out what Caffe Riche, Senglea Song Festival, Mellieħa Song Festival, which was organized by Imperial Band, Nigret Song Festival, Siġġiewi Song Festival, and Qormi Song Festival, where these Festivals aside was acquiring experience was win or placed and even started making a name also. Because apart from Marlene was able to on stage with both her high voice, and as a personality, it was a fact, that if taking part will compete to possibly try to win.

One day Marlene was singing and was noiced by Mrs.Inez Lombardo, a well know author, in those times, and after she talk to her, she started to write some songs for Marlene, to sing them in local festivals and often is presenting, during the Festival and later when Marlene was win they carrying the trophies to home.

And among those who won Festivals, organized by Carmen Degorgio at 1974, The Freedom Press Sing Festival, but that definitely memorable Festival left her, was that of Dragonara Song Contest was held in 1976 and it was win although there were about 26 people taking part, this Festival all singers were also modeling, and presention were also issued, with band, models like a beauty contest, she sings The Impossible Dream. Editions of the following year was finished in second place, while in 1978 also won the Song Festival Sajfija 1978. And many times also took part in the festival which was being organized in the Oratory of Birkirkara.

Marlene Darmanin - Singing

Despite all these festivals, a curious fact was, that Marlene never came to take part in Malta Song Contest, is a strange thing to explain. As a singer who was to succeed, it does not take part, this jiddispjaċija Marlene much, really mystery was, perhaps knowing the songs of Inez Lombardo addattanti not for this festival, or a lead it did not either as Manager .

She even got to sing was also out in the country including Sicily when a guest singer along with other singer Anna Deguara were gone Sicily and took part in festivals Del'Etna and Festival Di Novara, was once also will sing a song Prayer strength of John B.Cassar in Split, Yugoslavia, just had both problems, and did not go and instead had gone the singer Mary Rose Mallia.

As her songs Marlene never had, and it's really unfortunate that even some recordings of Festivals had only mid seventies had approached the singer presenter Joe James Farrugia to accumped him on some discs that time were 45rpm, and among these there Ħabbejtek with the flipside was Dak Kien Żmien (What Time was), Toninu is-Sajjied (Toninu the fisherman) who had achieved great successes with WE Group, with the B-Side is the Vista lit-Tabib.

Marlene although it had a nice career in singing, her personal work, but was always put first and foremost, only the stimulus was singing it, and was tikompetti to win, and won numerous cups and trophies , she never sing at Night-clubs, just to sing in several weddings, other occasions w, but never sang for money, the key for me was to take pleasure sing w gives a good show, because it loves to sing, around the year 1977 had sung with the band Vinny Vella Sr. For almost a whole summer evenings in which he played.

Today Marlene notwithstanding, has withdrawn from the scene of singing, one can tell the beautiful voice was still there too, also tuned, cherishing the memories of those young surround times both her children, Sylvana, Diane and her niece Maegan and the other daughter Maria Tonna Artist very outstanding by the works of Fine Arts most pencil drawing.
