Mark Cachia

Mark Cachia was born on the 12 December, 1982 and lives in Mellieħa. He is a musician, composer and singer.

Coming from a musical family, Mark started his musical studies at the age of six with piano teacher Victor Cutajar. He progressed to study Jazz Improvisation at the Johann Strauss School of Music with Mro. Paul Abela. This led him to further his studies in music and sit for a Bachelorof Arts Degree (B.A. Hons.) in Music at the University of Malta. There he studied under Dr. Dione Buhagiar, Mro. John Galea, Mro. Michael Laus, Mr. Philip Ciantar, and the late Profs. Joseph Vella and Profs. Charles Camilleri.

Under these tutors Mark specialised his studies in music mainly focusing on composition. Following his B.A. (Hons) in Music, Mark broadened his studies by sitting for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E.) and then furthered his musical techniques by obtaining a Maters in Music Degree (M.Mus) in music composition. In 2009 he formed a seven piece band for the concert Canzoni Vs Songs which was held at the Ta` Qali Greek Theatre with the aim to raise money for the voluntary philanthropic organization Reaching Out. After this performance the name JAMM Band (previously used by the trio formed by himself, Joe Muscat and Mark’s father – Anthony A. Cachia) was used for this seven piece band.

Together with JAMM Band, Mark performed on several occasions, notably for his Excellency the former President of Malta; Dr. George Abela and his grace the Archbishop of Malta; Mgr. Paul Cremona at Maria Assumpta Secondary School on the occasion of the school's 50th Anniversary Celebrations, several concerts for charity, international festivals and a concert in Adenau-Germany for the Heimatfest with the collaboration of the Mellieħa Local Council. Recently JAMM Band released a music video Rigal Kbir Għal-Kulħadd which will be followed by an album in the coming months.

Mark composed several works for orchestra as well as songs and jingles. Notably among these are the Reqiuem – Mewt u Qawmien (lyrics by Stephen Cachia), a Stabat Mater Dolorosa and the musicals Inti Pietru (lyrics by Emmanuel Francalanza) where Mark sang the leading role of Peter and The Last Show (music and lyrics by Mark Cachia) which was especially composed as the farewell musical for Maria Assumpta Secondary School. Together with the students of Maria Assumpta Secondary School he composed several songs which were released as music videos under the name of Maria Assumpta School Project and created a series of charity concerts under the name of School Aid. Mark also wrote and directed several plays and musicals and composed music for different schools, bands and organizations.

In 2015 mark taken part in the 39 edition of the festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2015 and on the 21 March, 2015 he was with the sixteen finalist with his song words and music by him self Waqt li Qed Nitfi d-Dawl and get the award for the Best Singer Songwriter.

In 2016 Mark joined forces with singer/comedian Joe Demicoli to form part of the Duwoduwo Duo, for a series of comedic musical sketches/songs which were broadcasted on TVM during the show Ħallih Iħabbat!.

On the 2nd September, 2017 Mark took part in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2017 with the song Kliem Ix-Xiħ lyrics and music by himself. A song which is wholly based on Maltese sayings (Qwiel).

In 2018 Mark will be taking part in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2018 with two song; L-Aħħar Żifna (music and lyrics by himself) and Ħadd Ma Jaf Xi Jrid, a song which he co-wrote with his JAMM Band. Mark currently works as a music teacher at Middle School, Naxxar; Maria Reġina College.

Mark will be one of the finalist in the 43rd Edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2019 (Festival Kanzunetta Maltija) held on 31 August, 2019 with the song Pjażża Ġdida lyrics and music by himself, beside that passed with another song sang by Ishmael Grech Fil-Klassi.

On Saturday 7 August, 2021 Mark Cachia performed the song Attakki Virtwali lyrics and music by Mark Cachia himself.
