Maria Cassar

Maria Cassar born on 14 November, 1994 and lives in Siġġiewi. She is a singer.

She started showing interest in singing from the tender age of 4, when she started attending singing lessons under the guidance of Phyllisienne Brincat. She also started taking part in various festivals in which she placed several times. Getting older Maria attended lessons at the Johann Strauss School of Music where she studied voice (Pop/Jazz) with Michelle Paris. Along the years she also attended some singing lessons with Geordie Debono and Maria Abdilla. At the moment she is taking lessons from the singer-songwriter, Rita Pace.

Besides having taken part in numerous singing festivals, she was also invited to sing as a guest on several occasions along the years, both on stage and on TV. When she was a student at St Monica School, Gżira she took part in multiple activities in which she could showcase her talent and later on, while she was studying at De La Salle College Sixth Form she was also one of the main presenters of Lasallian Nights 2012. Later on in 2012 Maria also had the chance to be one of the resident singers on the TV programme Entertain Me.

Apart from being a singer, throughout the years, Maria has also been involved in dancing and acting. In fact she used to practise Modern Jazz with Aceline Dance Company for around 2 years. She then took acting lessons in various schools such as Masquerade Theatre Arts School, Freespirit Acting and Imagin Arts. As a result, Maria took part in several local productions and she also used to be a presenter on a private TV station (UTV) for 2 years.

Currently, Maria is about to start her third year as a university student where she is reading for a B.A. (Hons) in Theatre Studies with Italian. During the past year, she had the opportunity to study abroad for 3 months at the University of Kent in the UK and this was an opportunity which she will definitely benefit from.

So far, Maria has been lucky enough to get to the Semi Finals of Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2014 in which she is competing in the category of Talent Ġdid with the song Int u Jien lyrics by Rita Pace and composer by Dominic Cini ‘Minik’.
