The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is a television show taking place at MFCC in Ta' Qali on 7 and 8 February 2014.

Songwriters for this contest can be of any nationality, however, the singer/s have to be of Maltese nationality or hold dual citizenship. Gianluca Bezzina , winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2013, is not permitted to defend his title. Singers were allowed perform up to two songs for qualifying round of the competition.


The Event

The semifinal and final sessions will be broadcast live on TVM. The hosts are Gianluca Bezzina and Ira Losco, both former Malta Eurovision Song Contest winners. Moira Delia will be providing links for the Red Carpet and backstage.

The winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 will become Malta's entry to the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark between 6 and 10 May.

The Songs

Preliminary round

A preliminary selection round determined the 20 songs to be performed at the semifinal, picked from all the submissions received before the end of October 2013. These were announced during a special edition of the popular TVM programme Xarabank on Friday 29 November 2013.

Semi-final

Here are the songs from the semifinal of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014, in the order in which they will be performed on Friday 7 February.

14 out of these 20 songs will be selected to compete during the final night on 8 February 2014.

Judging

During the semifinal, the songs proceeding to the final will be selected by six judges; televoting will make up the votes of a seventh judge. 14 songs will then progress forward to the final. Singers will only be allowed to perform one song in the final.

In the live final, the winning song will also be determined by the votes of six judges and televoting will make the votes of a seventh judge, In the event of a tie, the votes of the judges (therefore excluding televoting) will be used to ascertain the order of tied songs.

The winning song will represent Malta at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.
