Laura Bruno

Laura Bruno was born on 17 December 1985 and her family is from the Capital city of Malta, Valletta. Laura comes from an artistic family. Her father John Bruno is a well-known audio engineer and her uncle is the famous actor and comedian Hector Bruno.

She began singing at the age of 10, way back in 1995 were she sang for the very first time in front of a large audience. This was a mother’s day school activity and she was chosen to sing Gounod’s Ave Maria.

Her parents decided to send Laura to singing lessons at the age of 13 where she studied classical music under the tuition of Mrs. Ayres Jones for 3 years. She is now under the tuition of Ms Rosabelle Bianchi for the past 8 years.

Laura’s voice range is a soprano and this made her able to sing various genres of music. Her exposure to theatre made her voice stronger and she is known to be one of the most versatile singers in Malta.

In 2003, her uncle approached her to take part in the annual Christmas pantomime. To date, she took part in 10 Christmas pantomimes where she always played a main character, last one being Rapunzel u is-Siġra tal-fazola, where she played the role of the evil Witch.

In 2008 she made her debut at the Manoel Theatre by taking part in the Operetta Il Paese dei Campanelli where she was entrusted with the role of Soubrette Bonbon. Then in 2010 she took part in her second operetta named Scugnizza again playing the Soubrette’s role of Salome. Both operettas were produced by the Valletta Dramatic Company. She also took part in a series of Kantanapoli concerts produced by the same company as a soloist.

Laura also took part in several concerts, mainly musicals, where she sang musical pieces from famous musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Notre Dame de Paris, Sound of Music, Cats and many more. She also took part in the original maltese musical Sebaħ Jum composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and written by Joe Chircop back in 2014. Apart from singing Laura took part also in several comedies at Local theatres.

In 2013, Laura flew to London to audition for the very famous television show Britain’s got talent. Although she did not get through to the next stages of the program, the experience was an unforgettable one.

Laura was always active in participating in local song contests, mainly Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, L-Għanja tal-Poplu, Malta Eurovision and many more.

Her first participation in Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza was way back in 2005 with the song Il-Bogħod mid-dlam composed and written by Augusto Cardinali. She then made her comeback to the festival in 2012 with the song Kemm Xtaqt composed and written by Frederick Camilleri and in 2013 with the song Fraħt għax sibtek composed and written by the same. In 2014 she submitted a song called Int again composed and written by Frederick Camilleri which unfortunately did not reach the final.

In 2015 she made it to the final of the same contest with the song Ħolm tat-tfal with which she placed 4th on the night. This time the composer was Dominic Cini and lyricist Rita Pace.

This year, Laura will be taking part again in the final of the same contest. The song is called Fjura li ntfiet composed by Dominic Cini and as a personal wish, the lyrics by her uncle Hector Bruno. The song is a very emotional one as it describes the loss of her mother which happened back in January this year.

Laura hopes to continue progressing in her musical career and never stops dreaming that one day will be given the chance to perform in a musical at the West End.
