The Festival

1. L-Għanja tal-Poplu – Żgħażagħ 2018 is a Festival of original songs by Maltese interpreted by young people and accompanied live.

This year (2017), the festival is organized by the Committee, L-Għanja tal-Poplu together with St Benedict College of Hal-Kirkop with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Academy of the Maltese. The Malta Concert Orchestra of Pjazza Teatru Rjal is offering a group of musicians will accompany the songs under the direction of Mro.Paul Abela and Mro.Joe Brown acting in collaboration with the composer of the finalist songs.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu It is assisted by the Maltese Council for the Arts – Cultural Parnership Agreement.

1.2 The main objectives of the festival are:-

We give an opportunity to young people attending secondary and schools to participate in a festival in which they express the aspirations, the ħolm and their experiences; something which is not possible in the festival the għanja tal-People because participants must be over 16 years of age;

Incourrage young people to concern themselves in original writing and interpretation of the Maltese song quality;

Creating an appreciation of the Maltese song among young people and the general public;

Creating opportunity for authors and composers to work closely with young people to write and compose songs with the Maltese language;

Creating opportunity for the songs presented in the festival delivered to the Maltese public, and even after the festival to find growing audience.

2. ==The Songs== 2.1 To enter in to the festival, the songs could be:

(a) Must be relation to original music and never been broadcast or published on CD;

(b) Have either (i) the original lyrics or (ii) as the lyrics have to be published list poem on website *.

   Those who will receive the poem guarantees for the purpose of this festival sends an email with the    title I'd like a copy of the email on ghanjatalpoplu@gmail.com Poeziji and receive a copy of the poem guarantees;  If the song is used in other festivals, it must request the permission of the author.
(c) Be sung in Maltese;
(d) Song must not be  longer than three (3) minutes.
  • The list of the poems have already obtained permission for them to be used for the purpose of the festival can be found on www.ghanjafest.com/zghazagh.
  • Il-lista ta’ poeżiji li diġà nkiseb permess għalihom biex jintużaw għall-iskop tal-festival jinsabu fuq www.ghanjafest.com/zghazagh. At the festival can pass more than one song using the same poem.

2.2 The theme of the song is free, i.e. it can deal with any subject. This festival promote write songs expressing experiences, tastes, desires, aspirations and relationships both personal as well as collective youth.

2.3 The musical style of the songs is free.

2.4 Songs will be judged in terms of the words and the music and the link between them.

2.5 Persons involved in the organisation of the festival as well as the directors of the Orchestra cannot play in the production of songs which will be submitted to the festival.

3. ==THE SUBMISSION OF SONGS==

3.1 One can put more than one song for eliminatory phase.

3.2 The song will be recorded on a CD. The words must be understood and it is accompanied as it will reflect melody of the song at the final stage.

3.3 For each song must be presented separate A4 envelope containing:

(a) Recording of the song on CD, which contain only the name of the song,

Track 1. The Song

Track 2. The Backing of the song only, which may include the backing vocals.

(b) Ten copies of the lyrics, written in Maltese;

(c) The application for participation, participants, signed by the author and composer, and the name of the school, or secondary school of music or joy where attending participants.

(d) Contribution fee of €40. (given the reduction in the event that it proved that there are financial difficulties)

3.4 The envelopes of the songs will be received in the Office tal-Għanja tal-Poplu at 227, Merchants Street, Valletta, on Thursday, 2 November 2017 from 10:30-12:00 and from 17:30 to 20:30.

4. == THE ELIMINATORY==

4.1 For the purposes of these regulations:

PARTICIPANT means "person or group that is involved in matching the song's creation as a leading author or composer of music".

INTERPRETER means "person (s) matching part in the delivery of the song to the audience", in this case the young person or young people who will interpret the song.

SINGER SONG WRITER "an/grupp song with words and music to interpret of the person/group"

4.2 The jury of eliminatory be made by experts in music, lyrics, or both.

4.3 The jury of the first judge eliminatory the quality of the lyrics and the songs of melody and the link between them, and not the presentation or the acoustic quality. Otherwise professional quality demo recording. Thus a participant can avoid extra costs.

4.4 In the phase of final and final, the interpretation of the song be underlined as well.

4.5 Song being chosen as finalista cannot be withdrawn from the final when his official CD or festival.

5. ==THE FINAL PHASE==

5.1 Each interpreter of song presented in the final when the festival will be an average or secondary school attendance (Form 1 to Form 5) and still attending school.

5.2 In the final when his back or group may request interpret/interpreting to two songs.

5.3 In the final when his group of musicians from the Malta Concert Orchestra will accompany the songs under the direction of Mro. Paul Abela and Mro. Joe Brown.

5.4 Mro Paul Abela u Mro Joe Brown will offer to make musical arrangements for each song in concert with the composer of the song. This will be done free of charge.

5.5 If the participants feel the need, may provide some instrumentation at their own expense, and in agreement with the directors of the Orchestra. This will be done with the approval of the organizers to see to it that everything is technically feasible.

5.6 the backing vocals provide them the participants. Allowed up to four backing vocals if necessary..

12 Friday 2 nd March 2018 at 11.00am The first part of the final in front of audience of young students from schools. Young Jury
13 Saturday 3 rd March 2018 Final Evening Final Night will open to the public. An expert Jury

6.2 Those who will take part in the festival must have been ready to attend the trials and final qualifying nights.

7.  ==THE FINAL NIGHTS==  

7.1 The song that sing in the final will be the same song, lyrics and melody, presented in eliminatory. Corrections after the eliminatory can be made with the approval of the Organising Committee.

7.2 While it should be present and interpret the song as appropriate to the subject, it should be recalled that the exaggeration in storage, in clothing, in dancing, mime, etc. It can be attention away from the audience's attention from the lyrics and melody, which are the subject of the song. It is not allowed to dance groups or mime during the songs.

7.3 The jury in the final qualifying nights consist of expert in lyrics, music or both, which are different from the jury of the eliminatory.

7.4 During the first presentation of 2nd March will be held for students, attending youth jury chosen by the Organising Committee, to have votes counted with that of the expert jury.

7.5 The Reheasal and the final of the festival will take place in St Benedict Secondary School Hall, at Hal-Kirkop.

8.  ==PRIZES==  

The awards include:

  • Recognition to the winner part Song by poem.
  • Recognition to the winner part Song original lyrics.
  • Trophy to the winners category 11-12 years.
  • Trophy to the winners category a age 13 to 16 years of age.
  • Trophy L-Għanja tal-Poplu Żgħażagħ who give back to substantiate the winning song and to maintain for a year.
  • Opportunity to the Winner Singer to participate in a festival aboard Malta, with expenses paid.
  • Recognition to sixteen participants who took part in the festival.

9. ==PUBLICITY AND THE CD OF THE FESTIVAL==

9.1 The songs, the participants and interpreters receive finalisti publicity on the media, radio, television and the internet. Participants are requested to cooperate as much as possible with the Organising Committee for this publicity can be carried out in the best way.

9.2 L-Għanja tal-Poplu have the right to continue to view either these recordings for the purpose of promoting the festival. The song rights remain the author and composer.

9.3 The festival Committee will publish an official CD of the festival with songs all finalisti

9.4 Organizers of the festival have the right to include songs in the CD finalisti festival and sell the CD.

10. ==Final Decisions==

These regulations are subject to changes by the Committee the Għanja tal-Poplu. The Committee's decisions are final. Your participation in this festival should be a positive experience for your career. Therefore incourage participate. On our side, we will be updated with what is happening through the website www.ghanjafest.com or facebook: għanjatalpoplu If you have any friends that can interessting to take part in the festival, incourged them to participate.

The festival is being raised by Għanja tal-Poplu together with St Benedict College, Ħal-Kirkop and Royal Theatre Square, at Valletta. And in collaboration with the Academy of Maltese.
