Mro. Joseph Chircop

Mro. Joseph Chircop B.A (Hons), PGCE, LTCL, ATCL, born on 22 March, 1979 at Rabat Malta.

At the age of 7, he started his musical studies under the direction of Mro. Joe Galea of L’Isle Adam Band Club. When he was 13, he progressed under Mro. Paul Busuttil at the Johann Strauss School of Music. Five years later, Mro. Paul Borg took him under his wing. Eventually, Joseph received his ATCL Diploma in 2000 and in 2003, he secured his LTCL. Mro Chircop took his music theory studies under Mro. Ronnie Debattista and Mro. Raymond Zammit.

In 2007, he successfully completed, his Music degree at the University of Malta and at the Royal Northern College in Manchester. In the UK, he focused on harmony under Profs Dion Buhagiar and Profs Joe Vella. He was also tutored in piano studies by Dr.Frederick Aquilina and in the history of music by Dr. John Galea. He also advanced his studies in musical direction under Profs Michael Laus, Mro Joseph Sammut and trumpet playing under Professors John Miller and Murray Grieg.

Mro. Joseph Chircop

In 2008, Joseph got certified as a music teacher when he completed his P.G.C.E. from the University of Malta.

He was appointed, in 2009, as conductor and teacher at the La Stella Levantina Band of Ħ' Attard. He occupied this position till September 2014. He moved on to be the Band Master of the Lourdes Band of San Ġwann and Assistant Band Master of the Peace Band of Naxxar. Joseph teaches brass instruments at the L’Isle Adam Band Club, as well. Joseph forms part of the brass section of the PBS Orchestra and is the founder and leader of The Drop-Out Band.

He has participated regularly at events with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and has also been the guest of the BBC Radio II Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sophia, amongst others.

In November 2016 Joseph has opened the Harmonic Ensemble Music & Voice Academy together with Ritienne Azzopardi where he is the Musical Director and singing technique tutor.

To date, he is the Programme Accreditation and Assessment Administrator at the Directorate For Lifelong Learning within the Ministry for Education and Employment. In addition, he can proudly claim that he is the only qualified, trumpet teacher in Malta.
