John Ellis was the lyricist of the song "Sinjur Ġib il-Paċi" [1] by The Tramps, winner of the Festival Internazzjonali tal-Kanzunetta Maltija 1981. John is also credited with a number of tracks in the album released in 1981 entitled 'Sinjur Ġib il-Paċi' by the Tramps.

John was a teacher by career. He taught in primary and secondary levels and in government evening classes. He was also a head of school. He taught Latin, Greek and other subjects.

John died on 21 August 2017.[2]
